Hey guys i have been told by my mechanics that the seals on my power steering rack have gone and that it can be a tricky job.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this done and what they have paid for it.

From what ive seen on here $700+. did the one in my 2nd gen and doind it first time took me a good 4+ hours. But totally DIYable too
I realise many people sneer at "power steering stop leak", but I've used it with success on Pulsar N13, Jag XJ6L, Falcon EB and a VS Commodore. On all these vehicles it stopped the leaks both on pinion and rack seals within 2 weeks. All these vehicles were owned or passed on thru my family for at least 2 years following treatment with no further leaks. This stuff cannot perform miracles, but what it can do is soften all the seals which allows them to do their job again.
Cost wise it's less than $15.......

Iscertainly worth trying the stop leak at $15 for a temp fix.
A brand new rack will cost in the order of $650ish from mits plus fitting
A reco around $400ish change over, then fitting as well
If you have time to do this yourself, on a FWD third gen is actually a fairly easy job, I have several low K racks here including ones from TL/W which are the same as the Ralliart ones, these inlcuding pump are $250.00, when I remove them I leave the pressure and return hose looped so as to stop any dirt etc getting into the system and provided you use the proper fluid offer a 3 month parts exchange warranty.
Fourth option, if any of your local wreckers have any third gens, see if you can find one not leaking, then you get the practice of taking it out first
