View Full Version : Shadow Chrome or Chrome 19" Rims.
Thinking about getting some 19" rims...
Which would look better on a white TJ Magna do you think, chrome 19" rims or shadow chrome 19" rims.
I'm interested in hearing peoples opinnions about this, as shadow chrome rims are slightly cheaper...

i dont necessarily think the dip of the rim is what looks better
its the style of rim MIXED with the dip that will make or break it.
shadow chrome dished spokes on a white magna would look crazy
but also a fat set of chromies will make ur car crazy

im sorry guys but nothing and i mean NOTHING beats chrome wheels at night!!!!

I agree with 4pleazin. Nothing beats chrome at night. It will depend on the shade of your car. Chrome looks awesome on dark cars whereas shadow chrome and silver and more suited to lighter cars.
When it comes to chrome, the quality of the chrome finish will vary from wheel manufacturer so make sure you look and compare them closely if looking at chrome.
Akko be careful with 19's. They won't be street legal on your ride im sorry to say mate, and your insurance company won't be too pleased in the event of an accident as your load rating will be incorrect. They will most likely void your claim.

and also with chrome wheels....choose a design where the design and shape of the wheel changes the brightness of the chrome
The load rating is 94 for Magnas yeah?
I've seen tyres for 19" rims with a 94 load-rating.... but I might be wrong - perhaps they wont fit?...
Example: Falken GRB 451 - 245/40zr19 - 94 Y

I've rung round and everyone i speak to when it comes to buying 19's tell me they can't get any tyres with a load rating greater than 92.
I would have 19's by now if it wasn't for the bl00dy load ratings lol If you find a set of tyres for a load rating of 94 LET ME KNOW!

Is the load rating 94 or 95? I have a feeling the VRX is 95 but i will check when i get home.
How much a tyre akko? When i phones tempe they said they couldn't get anything above 92. Weird.
the price isn't listed on their website unfortunately.... perhaps they have no stock??

TOYO PROXES T1-S @ 255/40ZR19 96Y but you would have to run at least 19x8 and your overall diameter will most likely increase to much.
If ya ever wanted to go 20inches :)
The proxes is in a 245/35ZR20 95Y but still an 8inch rim is required.

Its the maximum weight the tyre is allowed to support. Rims are rated also ... but the tyre is the most 'visible'.
All modern cars have a tyre placard that has the 'standard' load rating. All states restrict tyres to that load rating as a minimum. Unless you get an engineers certificate you must obey the placard.

I have 17" ROH Adrenalines on my black Magna in Shadow Chrome, They have come up quick nice but I agree with some of the comments. Chrome looks better on darker cars plus it is riceier looking so I would probably go the shadow chrome on a white magna.
Aussie Magna has good point about insurance, the original rims I wanted couldn't be insured on my car so I choose the Adrenalines insted.
Good Luck with your mags

dark cars (mainly black/gun metal grey types) and white cars looks sweet with chromies but other cars it doesnt look as good, cant wait for my chromies :D
akko yours is an exec? u need a load rating of 95 big man if it is and blake u need a load rating of 94 isnt that waht VRX's load rating is? either way i dont know if any 19's come with a load rating that high, yay for high load ratings giving us limited choices :D
If a TJ Exec has a load-rating of 95 then the Dealer who sold me this car is in for a shock.
The current tyres are only rated at 94 ... not road-worthy?
I thought VR-Xs were 95 and Execs 94 ?

I have a feeling my VRX is 95. Thats crap coz i am legally allowed to get 19" rims and with the two up two down rule but the bl00dy load rating is the only thing giving me hassels lol
Oh well, problem is with 19's id be too scared to give the car a hard burn coz of the cost of tyres. At least with 18's I can go mental on them without having to worry about forking out 1200 for a new set of rubbers lol
Don't get me wrong, 19's look p0rn, i just think they are a little impracticle as they are very harsh, very expensive and easily damaged / warped.

just an idea for people looking at getting tyres... this website (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) really helps you to chose something close to what u need

Nah. I've got my owner's manual out:
Executive, Advance, Solara, V6Si, Sports, Verada, Verada 4WD: 95H
VRX, GTV: 94V
Ralliart: 94W
I can understand the speed rating being higher but I don't get the load rating being lower. Especially if the Sports and VRX are essentially the same car. Anything to do with the larger diameter??
My owners manual says nothing about a load-rating for 17" rims on a Magna, it only states the ratings required for 15" or 16" rims with 205 or 215 width tyres respectively...
My current tyres are 235s and have a load-rating of 94, inline with the Ralliart recommendations?

1200 would be cheap!! haha a replacment set of dunlops are 690each for my next change :( - but im still not afraid to "burn the rubber" hahaha
as for impracticle, harsh, and easily damaged, well really i dont think any are really valid, bar maybe the impracticle one :doubt:
easily damaged? any rim can suffer from cement gutters and hard impacts

but remember you get what u paid for, a lot of people who buy cheap rims get screwed because within 6-12 months you'll find they've bent or warped and would probably be expensive as to replace!

ben u telling me u paid 550 each for your rubber? christ man you got more money that brains lol j/k
I know for fact you can get them for 370 but i've seen a set of falkens on special for 290. Thats 19"

Don't forget though that good 19" tyres are going to be expensive and $400+. I'd much rather have 18" tyres that are good quality than cheap 19" tyres, as they are really what keep your car from sliding off the road and guttering those nice new wheels.

Must be the Ziex 326s which are IMHO a very average tyre... I definately recommend the FK451 or ST115 for everyday driving with a bit of track work, with the RT215s for track use or serious road use (summer only).
but remember you get what u paid for, a lot of people who buy cheap rims get screwed because within 6-12 months you'll find they've bent or warped and would probably be expensive as to replace!
Great then we'd be protected by the trade practices act. I'd be walking into the dealer and accepting my 100% refund, handing over the rims and buying better ones, not to mention learning a lesson ;-)
muzza_oz: Where'd you get your rims? Is there a website? Interested in looking at a range for future reference.. thnx.
Someone explain this to me, being a newb and all.. can you get 19" rims and tyres which are legal? Or what's the G-O? Thanks
