View Full Version : Changing High beams

As many of you know the set up on the high beam that holds the globe in place is, at best, a pig of an idea. I have just changed my highs over to HID and I would like to take a large blunt object to the knees of the person who had the audacity to think that at some stage in their life they may have had a good idea about how to keep a globe in place.:zap:
It took me 1.5 hours to get the (expletive) thing in!! My thumb and index finger are still bruised this morning,24 hours later, and I cut my hand open just to top things off. It is so hard to see what is actually going on on the passengers side, which was the problem child. I had a headlamp on and methodically tried many things. Has anyone else found an "easy" fix for this? You wouldn't want to be roadside and trying to change a globe!!
I reckon the designer should be first against the wall when the revolution comes!! lol

All my hassles have been with the low beam / combo globe and the *!&Y^%(&U&!! spring that holds it in, high beam is a piece of cake in comparison.
You sure you're talking about the high beam & not the low beam?

Absolutely positive. I found the low beam not a problem. If you have the spring thingys on the high beam spot on it should be ok, but if you don't watch out!

That sucks! I'd like to change my standard ones too, but I had a look once and can't even see where to get at it. My Commodore and previous Magna were easy and could be done in minutes! I might get my mechanic to do the 380 instead.

Really Dave it may cost you heaps for them to do it for you if they charge by the hour. Lock them in to a fixed quote if you do. BTW I have put in the 55w HID and they seriously kick ass!! The night breakers I am running on low beam look like a chain smokers fingers after you drop down off being on high beam for a while. Go for the 6000K ones is my advice. Replacement globes (if needed) are cheaper than halogen. I am trying to figure out if I have enough space to mount 2 more ballast boxes so I can upgrade the low beams as well. They are fantastic lights!!!!

That's a bit rough that the job is so complex that hourly quotes are needed. I'll check with my mechanic if he can do it, at least if I go that way I may as well get something good in there. Thanks for the globe spec ideas.
