My TJ 3.5 4 speeder ABS + handbrake lights display when I turn on the car and do not go away.

I have read all the previous posts and tried to get a error code by shorting pin 1 with Pin 4 or 5 and I get no ABS light flashing, only the N light and Engine light keep flashing telling me there are no ECU errors.

Is there a way to get the ABS light to flash and get me error code without MUT-II?

I have checked the fluid levels, the hand brake switch, cleaned the ABS sensors (there were covered in crap), disconnected the battery.

If I cannot get a diagnostic without a MUT-II scanner, does anyone know a mechanic in Syd that has one, I'd hate to go to the dealership, or is it a cheaper to buy the Evoscan cable and software?

Any help /suggestions are appreciated!

I've had this problem for the last 3 months and have no ABS.. Its dangerous as wheels have locked a few times recently especially in the rain. Apparently the sensors are not giving the signal and the problem is with the silver box that receives these signals.. I'm waiting until i take it for a major service to get this fixed.. Might cost a bit..
The silver box being right up near the passenger window corner of engine bay.

I think that's the ABS-EBD unit, I pulled the cable out and measured the resistance of each sensor and their were all constant 1.3-1.4 k so it may not be sensors.

Does anyone know how much the new/used sensors cost and the ABS unit?

I'd get it checked at any big brake place - plenty in Sydney - all will be able to download ABS data as the ABS/EBD unit is the common Bosch unit. Just buying parts could result in you throwing money away.(ask me how I know)

prob not, and im pretty sure you dont short the pins to get it into diagnostic mode, you ground a pin from memory

the ABS in my ford falcon gave trouble, it has the same Bosch unit as my TW. I fixed it by replacing all the sensors, which cost me about $20 each from a wrecker. I'd ask Madmagna for some sensors first (or maybe some advice!) as they're easy to replace and cheap, at least in the ford.

You may have a slightly worn wheel beqaring, causing intermittent faults at one (or more) wheel. Check for excessive end flaot on the wheels.

When I had this problem it needed a MUT3 to clear it.

The MUT displays the pulses on the laptop as you spin the wheel.

Just take it to a dealer mate, never ignore steering or brakes.

doesnt have to be a dealer, i had a mobile mech come out with a MutII and he could diagnose everything, he said errr your timing is advanced pretty far lol

Thanks everyone, I rang Mitsi dealer and they want $134 to plug it in and others from 80-100, so I decided to get Evoscan cable and software for $90 and diagnose it myself. at least this way I get the cable and software to use in the future....it will hopefully arrive this week.

I suspect that one of the wheel's hubs or even rotors is stuffed because when I brake slowly, the braking it intermittent and doesn't inspire cofidence. I guess its time to change the rotors and brakes anyway but I'll wait for the evoscan cable to do all at once......I've taken the car off the road just in case.

They reckon that it will work on magna in terms on datalogging. I guess if it doesn't I am screwed although they said to sendit back in it doesn't work. I'll keep you posted
