alright so i climed under my car last night and noticed a small drop of gear box oil staring at back at me.... Could not ****ing believe it TBH. Initially i thought it must have been maybe from it being spilt when it got serviced about 3 weeks ago so i degreased it drove home checked it out this morning and BAM another drop sitting there. Im not sure whats caused it but im thinking its leaking from the two pink coloured gaskets that are on the left and right of the gearbox....

Just wondering has something not been tightened up properly at service or if its the start of something else. Ill be going to service today after work ill get them to throw it on the hoist to get a better look at whats happening.......i suppose somethings gotta happen after 175k's right lol

till its on the hoist ya wont really know. could be a leaky sump plug, could be a shot driveshaft seal......best thing to do is get a rag and clean everything off and then when it leaks on the ground you can pinpoint the location to the gearbox adjacent kinda thing.

yea its the only major thing ive had go wrong with a 380 ever. I tried that tuffy and its just ending up in one drop on the bottom. Ill try and get a pic up at some point. I might need a new engine and gear box ;)

Should be just a seal, wouldnt be anything too major I would think. See what Mr Mitsibushi says.

I would say most likely the trans drive shaft seal or the front pan seal, the front pan seal is only a sealant applied to the trans pan when assembled. The trans has only a couple of places it can leak from so if you do get the oppertunity to get under the car and have a bo peep take a pic of the area the leak is coming from or call me and perhaps I can help over the phone

alright guys. This was really bothering me today at work so much that in my lunch break i went to the local mitsu dealer who i have had bad experiences with before but cause they are a 5 min drive from work i thought why not. I get there, their work shop is empty surprise surprise went in spoke to the service manager and asked if we could throw my car up one of their 13 hoists and have a look. He said sure not a problem, me thinking to myself wow they've changed! Them he said we'll throw it up tomorrow morning as we are flat out also you'll be charged a diagnosis fee. After a few words about their workshop being empty and them not appearing to be flat out as he said, i walked out of there.

So i called up my mate at my mitsu where i usually go explained my situation to him he said bring it in after work and we'll have a look. I got there didnt have to wait i drove it straight in we put her up had a look showed them where it was leaking from but of course it wasnt leaking any more; always the way right? They were pretty shocked like me as it was there only weeks ago. They brought her down from the hoist and said as you can see there is no leaks. But for your and our piece of mind were taking off your air box and MAF and we'll have a good look before we let you go. It then dawned on me that my gear box wasn't leaking i said i know what it is now.i said i bet its my K&N panel filter, we undid it and sure as hell it was. Ive bloody over oiled the ****ing panel filter which has leaked ontop of the box and down under neith where i saw it. My mate there made a joke about it and said atleast you got it looked at anyways better to be safe then sorry.

Lesson learnt here today, well ive learnt

DONT OVER OIL YOUR AIR FILTER lol lol lol lol

big thanks to those who tried helping me out today. Goes to show im more stupid then what i appear in my avatar. lol

now excuse me ive got some degreasing to do :)

edit: my dealer didnt charge me a daignosis fee like that other mob wanted to

Hey Kif you only need to put a light spray on the K&N otherwise you risk clogging the MAF sensor.

If you've over oiled your K&N that bad that it runs down the gearbox fair chance you've got oil residue on your MAF sensor, and before long your car will start running shitehouse.

Get some MAF sensor cleaner (CRC in a can from SuperCrap) or electrical component cleaner from JayCar (post around here somewhere about it) and spray it on your MAF sensor.
It evaporates away real fast taking the excess K&N oil with it. Don't wipe the MAF screen, just let the spray evaporate.

But i will do it anyways. And yea Fooz i kinda rushed it last sunday morning when i did it as we had a charity cruise on. This'll learn me for rushing! Lol

In your opinion.

And the opinion of the mechanic at TMR who wins races.

Lotsa races...to me his "opinion" can be regarded as fact.

I agree. Take the KN out, spray it will oil, then spray it with tacky glue, then hang it up to catch flies, in the mean time get yourself a paper element air filter and put that in your car.

In your opinion.

This is 100% correct, in my opinion they are bad as the oil resedue gets into the TB plate and sticks that up, gets through the MAF and buggers that up and also restricts air flow. This is also the opinion of SKR, TMR, a lot of dyno specialists also do not like oiled filters either

Anyways. Its all sorted out now. Air box is all clean everything has been de greased and cleaned out and would like to give a big thanks to Brendan (ih8hsv) for giving me a hand. Muchly appreciated mate! Cheers, one thing i must say is i'm glad that my gearbox isn't leaking and it was only something very stupid and minor.

Good for them.
Do they drive 380s?
In this specific application the K&N works well. Obviously no account can be made of those who over oil them.
I've already posted my experiences and others here have backed me up.
So, maybe K&N filters for EVOs, Lancers Magnas whatever else provides little advantage.
I'm not referring to those.
It must be noted that when some of us tried to use a K&N with the standard intake, there were problems, so it has to be fitted with the 90mm US Galant intake to get an improvement - and that it is - a very real improvement felt under the right foot.
That's a fact; not an opinion.

Anyone know where i can get driveshaft Seals From? Ive got a shot seal ans scored a sports magna for $600 in excellent condition mind you :)
And it pisses out oil from the drivers side shaft....which was annoying considering i just spend $94 on transmission oil!!!! Managed to save it though with a pan....

But Moral of my rant, I need a damn seal! Any ideas People?? :)

When I needed one, I just went into my local car parts store, and asked for one. lol They had some. Easy as!

You had better investigate why its leaking so massively though.
