g'day all..

my GT has 20x8.5 Lenso rims on it.
with 225/35/20 tyres (incorrect load rating of only 90)

i've been looking at 245/30/20 Nankang NS2's (correct load rating)

with the SA laws , tyres have to be within 15mm of rolling diameter to be legal , and with the 245/30's , is comes to about 13.5mm difference from stock , which will make them legal..
i don't get any scraping now, but i'd like to go slightly wider to get rid of a bit of the "stretched" look i have now with the 225's on the 8.5in. rim.
so if i go a bit wider and slightly lower in the profile , i'm guessing i should be allright..

i'm interested to know with other 380 owners , what tyres & sizes do you run , and if you get any tyre scraping ?

cheers,
Brad.

i have 245/35R20 altenzos and they are pretty sweet KJ 380 had the 245/30R20 Altenzos so no scraping would ocure but was a bit harsher ride i believe. mine are apparently rated at doing 102km/h at indicated 100km/h so probably just brings it back up to normal if you take into account most motor companies normally only do 98km/h at indicated 100.

As 380 SX says I used to run Altenzo 245/30 R20s without any scraping problems at all. And that was with Kings superlows on the front and lows on the rear. On 20 x 8.5 rims with +38 offset. They had an 'extra' load rating as well, so no probs with legality.

The Altenzos were OK, but if you can get the same size in a Kumho KU31 Ecsta SPT with the right load rating and at a decent price that would be the better way to go.

The Maxxis MA Z1 are also a damn good value for money tyre, with great grip in the wet, but not sure if you can get them in 245/30 R20 or in a legal load rating.

I have used all three of these tyres in varying sizes.

i have 245/35/20s on 8 inch wide rims (with i think a +35 offset). running kings super low fronts and king low rears. only time i get any contact anywhere is a little scraping in the front wheel well in high g corners under brakes which is fairly rare. also my speedo is under a kilometer out at 100kph according to the gps on my phone.

if you go the Kumho's ring around for prices. I got this set in melb. And for the exact sand tire it varied from 280 dollars the cheapest to 450 each! Be sure to ring around.

Cheers guys..

my wheels are 20x8.5 with 40 offset.
im a little concerned that the rears may touch the top of the guard on large bumps , but i spose there is plenty of lip there to fold/trim if necessary..
i've got Pedders low's all round it , so with the 245/30's i recon it will be allright...

thoughts ?

245/30s or 235/35s should be OK on the rear without scraping on the guards, but 245/35s will probably scrape.

245/30's are now on there...seem to be good on the rear.

I got altenzo 245/35/ 20s from bob jane. Good tyre and no noise.Cost me $750 fitted and balanced for a set of 4 which is about $250 off normal price.
It pays to shop around/haggle
Also check ebay if you want cheap tyres. There are aus sellers selling them for $100 per tyre

Wait until you hit some coarse chip bitumen, they then get very noisy.
