Hey dudes,
I was wondering what the average price you guys are paying to tint your Magna sedans? as I want to get mine done in the next week or so. I live on the Central Coast ie near Sydney.
I can't imagine it being too expensive due to the framless windows, but I want to spend no more than $250.
Also I was looking for 20% which I know is illegal and no warranty, but it looks way better and my car sits outside so I want max sun and uv protection.
The problem is rego: has anyone with illegal tint has problems passing rego?
Thanks
ps: if this has been posted before, my apologies, its just that i had specific questions.

Dood, 20% is still covered under warranty! The tinters dont really care what goes onto the car, they arent held accountable.. You are!
Check my car out in my link.. Thats black 20% Metalised tint, done for $275 Clicky (http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/car/vrx4.jpg)
I got mine done through an Instant Windscreens place.. Click me (http://www.instantwin.com.au/)

Yo Billy: thought i would give some 1st hand advice as i am a window tinter of 2yrs in perth. prices will vary slightly from shop 2 shop and from film 2 film and i would say the prices all over aus will be around the same but you would be lookin at anywhere from 250-350 for a metalized film at 35 grade(legal limit) in the shops, the fact that magnas have pillarless windows makes no difference either. if you want a darker job done then u will be hard pressed to find 1 of the bigger joints (ie. tinta-a-car, solace) that will do it for u because if they do and the give u a reciept & warranty they r stupid cause they can get busted huge for putting it on (despite wot Bain said), find someone reputable that will do it a back-yard cashie (dont expect waranty) that will do it for you (i charge around 250, but expexct to pay from 200-400) but make sure they use a high quality metalized film not some cheap plastic **** that will go purple in a year. Also, the grade of the film (u want 20 grade) does not have anything to do with u.v. protection, it must be a good quality metalized film to have a high uv rating, a good 50 grade would be heaps better than a **** plastic 20 grade when it comes to uv. and finally and MOST IMPORTANTLY, an ILLEGAL film will induce work orders if u r pulled over, you will not pass rego at the pits and can also void your cars insurance if you are found to be at fault in an accident (please read into this).
Hope this is helpful to you and anyone else thinking of getting dark film on thier car.

Why go through a backyard job when you can get full warranty from a professional tint place.
For someone whose been doing tinting for 2 years, you sure dont know jack about the law in regards to tinting and whose held accountable.

Hey
Ive been looking for tinting too and if you want a good price with solartint.. blacktown branch quoted me $220 on darkest legal (ie 76% Glare, 99% UV).. that was per car for 2 cars and I'm sure theyll do it cheaper if you find a couple more people to get theirs done as well... Or you could try to get a closer branch to match that price...

Ive already got 20% tint done, i have a full lifetime warranty, i know quite a few people who have the same.
Go speak to any tint place, they can an do sell you 20% tint and its not them who can be held 'accountable'
O and if you really want to have 20% tint and legal, get your back 3 windows done in 20% and your front 2 in 35%.

I looked into window tinting a few years ago in NSW and what was and wasn't legal, i was told if u have two side mirrors as all new cars do then u can tint the back window and rear side windows as dark as u like. If the windscreen is tinted at all except a band across the top or the front side windows are too dark then the car won't pass a pink slip. In NSW all rego inspection stations are required by law to have a window tint test meter. If u want window tint that stays on ur windows for more than a few years and doesn't bubble then it has to be fitted in a low humidity booth (like a spray booth but with an airconditioner). If u want it to last get someone who has the right gear to fit it.

Thanks for all the advice, especially the insurance info....didn't think about that issue.
In regards to the warranty, the reason I questioned it was because my friend got his car (pre-94 model) done in 20% by Solace a couple of years ago, and they refused to give a receipt, written warranty or put their company sticker on the back window, saying that if you have any problems with the tint, to just bring the car back within 12 months and we'll fix it (he had no probs with the tint). They said if the authorities found out they applied illegal tint, besides the car owner, they would also get into strife.
My mate wasn't worried himself, as the car being a pre-94 model can have any tint, and if pulled over, would just say he got it done before 94 and they'd never prove it.
I think that while 20% looks better, I might just do 35% in good film and not have the worry.

Hey mate I been working in Motor insurance claims for NRMA NSW for 2 years and never seen or heard on one being declined from ilegal tints, not sure about the rego but u can always find someone even dodgier than the last haha. lol
I just booked my car in to get 35% tint at instant windscreens (Edwardstown SA) for $220. Nows a good time cos all the places i went to have got specials on now.
