Hi guys,
Sorry to bring this topic up again but lately I've been wanting to get a 2.5-3" cat-back bolt-on system for my TL. Now I've been to autobarn and they don't have any for magnas :( . I was just wondering what would be the price of the bolt-on systems, with the bolt-on systems do you have to modify anything at at, would there be any welding involved, would I be better off going to an exhaust shop and getting one fitted and what system would have the least amount of drone? Thanks

Imo you should be replacing your rear muffler.
The stock pipes are already 2.5" press bent, Im not sure who makes a catback system for a TL.
the rear muffler will adjust the sound entirely, depends how loud you go and basicly the louder the more drone there will be.

Yeah I was going 2 do that but I'm getting a rattle in the rest of my system so I think why replace it with another stock system? My old back muffler got some rust holes in it too so I reckon the rest of the exhaust would be pretty thin by now and will probably start gettin holes in it aye.

it would be better going to an exhaust shop and getting bolt on rear muffler imo, i paid around 200 for a 2.5'' inch and it looks/sounds great
no need for a cat back unless u really wanna.. if so usually the tl/tw are already piped for bolt on so no modifying needed

In that case see if an exhaust shop can find the source of the rattle, if it's up near the cat / exhaust manifold a catback exhaust would not help this problem anyway!
Then he can replace whetever is rattleing or even the whole exhaust with new pipes and a new rear muffler.

When do you get the rattle? Could be the Y-piece. Had this happen in mine when accelerating and under load.
If thats the same sound you get, get a new y-piece and just replace the rear muffler. Lukey do a bolt on one for about $220 from memory

I got a donor car sitting in the back yard with another complete factory exhaust system on it so I could get the Y-piece off that. Yeah mine happens under load too like for example in a maccas drive through when I accelerate a bit to go from the speaker to the window it happens. It also happens if I hold the brake and accelerator together or when I first take off from the lights or something. Sorry bout the silly question but which one's the Y-piece again?

I searched around for ages trying to find a bolt on system for mine, and ended up just taking it to a local exhaust shop and getting them to build one up with the instructions being that there should be no/almost no drone, and they sorted it out perfectly.

Thanks guys.
I think I'll save up some more money and get some prices round the place. I was thinking maybe a twin system but it would probably cost more (more like $500+) and I might not be able to do it as my towbar may restrict it. I was told i couldn't put a cannon muffler on it cause my towbar is in the way.

Sounds like the Y-piece is stuffed. Simple job to replace, just a little fiddly with the driveshafts place but as you have the parts at home i would suggest trying that first. If you want to upgrade your exhuast honestly just get a new muffler and get a straight through centre one if you want more noise, its not worth getting the whole lot replaced as your model has a decent sized piping anyway.
That way if you want to go for a twin setup, it would only cost you for the connection of the new second pipe

could be your Y piece....if it's under load are you sure the car isn't pinging? that can cause a metallic tinging sound too...
Dual exhaust setup - $600 minimum.
Autobarn - dont do anything for magnas so dont bother going anymore
Just go to your local muff shop and get a system made up there.

Best you find where the rattle is first, the splitter int he engine pipe is a common thing, will generally be worse when cold than when hot, if this is all the issue is, it is an easy fix
