I have done the tint
I have done the rims
I have done the exhaust
Now its about time to to the ultimate cosmetic alteration to my car, lowering. It will give it that nice touch in the visual side of things plus the handling.
Just curious on what you guys recommend or stay away from when it comes to springs and suspension.
I have had a little look around awhile ago but put lowering on hold due to insurance reasons but that has been sorted.
I haven't heard anything/much good things about Pedders but they were the most helpful with questions, ideas etc but i am after the end result, not who is the best sales person.
Does any1 know if it is illegal to trim or remove mud flaps from a magna???

from what i have seen 30mm lower gives a nice touch, 60mm lower is ultra undrivable to say the least

Dump it!
Go with the SuperLows & Lows combo from Kings!
or..
The Whiteline SuperLows Package!
I know someone with both these and yeah.. both are awesome!

I am thinking about just doing level 1, 40mm. I agree, i think 60mm is a little too low, will cause too many problems in car parks etc...
I have sorta played with the idea of lowering the front a touch more than the rear to kill part of the wheel arch gap.

60mm dorp at fron 40mm at back gives a magna a nice level feel, if u havent notice ur front sits up more then ur back this is why ppl lower superlows at front and lows at back
go King Springs and munroe gt schocks, seems to be what most ppl ride on here

Kings have two lows. 40mm and 25-30mm which are their SP ones. I keep getting told that Kings will sag and they aren't very good. So far I'm happy but I'm monitoring them. The car was 25mm lower after the initial drop and had setteled another 3mm last time I measured. That was a month afterwards. I think they've dropped further as it looks nicer but I haven't measured. Next time I'm going to try Elbach as they were what was recommended. Apparently Kings use cheap China iron and supposedly Lovells are the same.
If you're worried about the fronts, you could always try sourcing the wheel arch flares however my SP springs have the car looking asthetically good, (even).

Stop talking out your ass!
60mm is fine to drive on. You will get some scrapes if you decide to try and go up monster speedhumps and dumbass angle driveways..

Being able to drive up driveways and speed bumps doesn't mean that driveability is good. It's all about usable suspension travel and *effective* springrate. IMHO 60mm drop in a Magna is way too low for street use.
A car should also always be lowered the same amount front/rear or you will be interfering with the castor angle. Hence why a good spring setup is sold as a set of 4, not as pairs.

pedders...ha, heaps good!
if so, why dont they use their own suspension in their rally car!
im with bain...60mm drop is fine! ull get scrapage is u go flying over speed bumps or driveways!

Have to agree with Tek. Low is better. The magna will not be level with super lows front and lows rear. It will look it, due to the rear guard being lower anyway, but it won't be. The different heights have an effect on weight distribution, especially under braking. Your also pivoting the front of the car even lower (and jacking the rear).
But those who are out for looks will go with superlows/lows. Those out for road holding capability will go lows and DECENT shocks :)

I will go with the 40mm all round, it will give it a nicer look with the wheel arches having less space in them, get some decent shocks for handling and not have too many dramas in car parks etc

Are they legal? I don't think they are...
Not worried about the cops, just my insurance company. Wouldn't like to write off my ride and get nothing back :(
It would be awesome, cruising around with your ride dumped on its arse, come to a speed bump, raise it up to 4WD level, cross and then dump it again :D
Well the Verada's have bags, I know not as drastic as you guys want, so it "should" be ok. But that would look sweet and practical (ive seen cars grind their floor when going over speed humps.... not pretty :rofleek:

Yeah, I heard the same about Pedders and King springs sagging after a while,
so it put me off them.
Ended up getting Fulcrums. Had them for 3 mths. and no complaints. Car looks even,
it's a bit harsh over bumps but OK. Apparently lowered Commos (down to the wheel arches)
look great but are as harsh as .
Got Monroe Sensatracas well (cheap bastard) but the word is GT Gas are the way to go.
If you've got a bit more money, KYB or Koni are your friends.
Make sure you get a rear swaybar and front strut brace as well. The difference will astound you. ( sounds like a commercial!)

How much are sway bars n strut braces worth?
ATM I am gonig to stick to just the springs n suspension as I want to begin more work on my stereo...
Then will quite possible looking into other areas to improve :)

About $160-$180 for each, plus fitting.
Go to whiteline (http://www.whiteline.com.au)
Do a search, they have a complete package for Magnas. Download the PDF, it's got all options and part No's.
There is one type of strut brace, and several swaybars( stiff  , adjustable, etc.)
For some reason, it's more expensive to buy from Whiteline than their distributors.
Tyrepower did ordering and fitment for me, it's not a huge job.

I've just switched from King Lows to Pedders low heavy duty springs with pedders sports ryders shocks. My King Springs collapsed when I went off roading ... not good to me at all. The new setup up is ultra tight and feels fantastic on the open road. Am off roading it for the first time with the new setup this week. Let you know how it handles.
Pedders offered terrific advice in terms of explaining everyting and why/whynot to go for various set ups. Cost more than your average jo but I got peace of mind which I think is ultra important when you're playing with your life.

Hey Trinedy, your ride looks sweet :)
When you put the pedders sports ryders in, how much of a drop did you get?

One of those out there questions, don't see it actually happen.
Hydro Suspension where you can raise n lower with the press of a button:
-How does it work
-What is involved in installing it
-It is illeagal, rite?
-Any ideas on prices?
I think it would be sick to have a set of these on my ride but as I said earlier, my main concern is insurance company...
there is a product out i seen in a mag and checked out their website, it costs bout $3-4000 i think and its completly legal u can raise and lower ya car,
it was legal due to the way it was made, cant remember off the top of my head but will try and source out the mag i seen it in

speed bumps yes and no with problems,
Depending on how "high/big" the bump is i will either take the speed bump at a angle or drive over it normally
BUT
Most driveways are a angle drive in.
Those concrete bumps in carparks are a no no reverse in or you will take your front spoiler off or at least scratch it real bad i havent encounted any probs with that yet tho :) lucky me
cheers
