View Full Version : TJ Ralliart Gear Flaring
Hi All,
Just had my battery disconnected and then got Mitsubishi to flush the transmission fluid but my
gears seem to be flaring from 2 -3 gear. I have read older posts and they say something about re training
the transmission but I can't see all the details for this as they are quite old posts. The Mitsubishi centre knew nothing about this and said I would just need a new transmission. Can someone please help me ?

It's posted in the DIY and FAQ section (a subsection of Tech Torque).

If its flaring after a fluid flush and disconnecting the battery its ****ed.

What lol lol
It's quite normal for a bit of flaring after a fluid change and Batt disconnect. The transmission just needs to relearn shift points properly. Give it a few weeks. There is also a guide on here to assist in getting the transmission to relearn immediately
Hmmm thanks for that :) It has gotten a little better from just driving around I will try the transmission Upshift learning procedure ( Thanks Red Valdez) and see if that helps. Fingers crossed all I need to do is find a long empty flat road to do it on.......

I'm normally too lazy to do the re-learn procedure. If I let it relearn itself, the gearbox will sometimes flare for a couple of weeks (depending on how much driving I do in that couple of weeks lol), so it's nothing to worry about whatsoever. If it's still flaring in a month's time, then you may have something more serious on your hands :P
