Had the '04 VR AWD for a few weeks now and have noticed something odd about fuel usage.

Filled up yesterday afternoon as the guage was half way between the lower bar and empty and the fuel light was illuminated. The car had done 556km's on that tank of juice. Filled up and only got just over 55 litres of juice in the tank.

Now correct me if i'm wrong but the car is supposed to hold 70 litres of fuel?

Using my average mathmatics skills, this tells me that I still had almost 15 litres of fuel left in the tank?

So, it's either my car has a very pessimistic fuel guage or the petrol station i use is diddling me on the amount of fuel i'm putting in my car?

Any ideas guys?

Other than that, i'm relatively happy with the fuel consumption so far.

Mines the same, I tend to use the ltrs used in the trip comp, far more accurate

Plus that equates to 10.1L/100km, not too shabby at all.

Yeah mate, i'm pretty pleased with that. Although it only came good when i replaced the old choked up paper filter with a k&n. Was pretty crap before that. Most of those k's are motorway k's tho.

Hey guys.
Totally normal for an AWD. has been covered before.
The AWD's have a split fuel tank with the tail shaft going through it. The sender/sensor is on one side of the tank and there is a crude mechanical pump that pumps fuel from one side to another while driving.
This is why your fuel guage will say under empty one day and the next morning it will be back round 1/4 full. Its just as the fuel gets pumped from one side to the other.
As other guys said, best to use our trip comp. Reset when tank is full and just look at the total liters used as to how low your tank is. You will be suprised how far that fuel guage gets below E before you really get low on fuel.

Well that explains a lot. Was wondering why after i get back into the car after having it parked for a bit, the fuel guage reads a little higher. Thanks.

I thought the awd's had a 65lt tank not 70....but as others have said I go by liters used not the gauge. Verada is accurate with .5lt most times.......any greater than that and the pump is lieing and I complain when I fill up to the console operator as the servo pump must be out.
