$1000 should be pretty close, as you will probably need the timing belt changed, which can vary between 400-600. I just had mine done for $1300 (500 for belt and 800 for extras).
100k means that you are probably combining 90k and 105k in the book. This means timing belt, fuel filter, rear spark plugs and auto trans fluid. Each of them are done at around 100k. The coolant, brake fluid and air filter are done every 45k so they might be due as well. Sounds like you have the minor items under control since you are only now looking for a mechanic.
There are some threads a few weeks ago the 100k service and on the timing belt which you probably saw. I went to the dealer myself. Figured they would be in practice on that model and would use OEM parts. If you go to the dealer you will get the apprentice but that happens everywhere unless you go to a one-man place.
They were reasonably cheap and did a kind of OK job, I only needed a timing belt. I thought that the dealer would charge more. They didnt try to sell extras such as a new water pump, said it wasnt necessary. At most of the dealers around here you can have a coffee and lurk and watch your car, which I prefer.

I know your in Queensland now (gotta be warmer than Ballarat) but this (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72817)is what Mal charges so if you can get close to that, then the price would be good.
