So I tinted the tail lights on my wagon and was just wondering if they were too dark. Haven't been pulled over yet, but a mate tells me that he was pulled over and they were lighter than mine......

Chances are nobody will notice on the rear lights of a magna wagon.....
Unless a cop is following you and notices.
But yes you would probably get defected if a coppa did happen to notice.

Any form of Niteshade/tinting is illegal and you do it at your own risk.
They aren't ridiculously dark though, and like Hayden said, a Magna wagon isn't exactly cop bait...

My wagon has a bit darker than yours and I've never had a problem (with police following me, when pulled over at RBT's or yearly rego inspection).
And yes a Magna wagon is great for avoiding attention from the police, it also helps if you aren't on your P's and you drive sensibly.
If they do get noticed by an officer who pull's you over, be polite, act as though you had no idea they were illegal and agree you'll change them (and actually do change them, at least for a couple of months if not for good). Police have long memories.

I tinted mine with the knowledge that the reflector in the tail light must be visible from 40m using headlights in the dark.
I tinted all over my tail light, bar the reflector, and I haven't had a problem yet at all.
