View Full Version : AWD front brakes don't fit on a TW!

I bought some AWD front brakes from MadMagna, under the mistaken impression that they fit straight onto the front of my TW, which has std 15" wheels.

The comment, as I understand it, made by others here, is that these brakes will work without going up to 16" wheels. However I must have misunderstood this, because they don't fit. The calipers and discs go on OK, but won't clear the wheels. Pity.

They need 16's as a minimum. Why do you think the AWD cars run 16's?

yes, I know that now. I'm just a bit slow, that's all.

See this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40990). In essence, the rotors are 297mm, callipers add another 40mm to the diameter so totalling 337mm which equates to 13.2". Alloy wheels are chunky. My 18" alloy only has 400mm clearance, that is 15.7". So scaling that down, a 15" alloy would have 12.7" clearance which is less than 13.2". This is assuming ofcourse that a 15" alloy would have the same rim material thickness as an 18" alloy.

Unfortunately when purchased, I had no idea on what wheel you were running

The AWD's come with 16" standard, thus it is a safe assumption that the 15" will not fit

The 380 comes with a 16" steel spare regardless of the model you have so we know that a 16" steel will fit over the 380 brakes, is safe to say that they will fit over the AWD as well given that they are slightly smaller.

Most 16" alloys should fit over the 380 and will fit over the AWD thus your next port of call will be a set of wheels and tyres or sell off the brakes which would be a shame given that these are a great upgrade

so, Mal, do you have any sets of 5 x 16" wheels that look as close to stock as possible? Steel is fine, as long as I can get some stock hub-caps.

try the local wreckers and see if you can get a set of std 380 wheels...might be cheaper than getting them shipped over from Melbourne.

If you want factory alloys I can help, best you have a look at my wrecking threads and browse what is in there, there are several cars with wheels on them

Wouldn't you ask what wheels he's running before selling the item :-/?

Edit: It would be like selling Brembo's ...

FYI. I have the 380 brakes installed, and with the 17's ( I have the GTVi 7 spoke rims) I have just a few mm clearance.

No harm done of course! Was just making sure buddy.
P.S 380 brakes look sweet on a nice 5 spoke jap rim!

oh this thread has got me worried. i should check to see if my Spare wheel fits over my brakes, if i get a flat tyre im screwed.

yeah, that's a thought. I'm thinking of just getting 4 wheels, and keeping a 15" as spare. if I get a flat, the spare can go on the back and a back wheel on the front, and this scheme might work for you too.

At 6.5'' wide and that offset i'd highly doubt it.

Contrary to the other member, these should fit absolutely fine... the Lancer rims have the same offset as the factory Magna alloys and with the additional 1" diamater that you need.

That is fine as the standard AWD wheels are 16x6 with 46+ offset.

I've heard that falcon AU wheels fit, and they're cheap. Does anyone know if these fit over AWD calipers? Ideally, opinions from someone who has actually tried it....
