hi not that i have any money but i just wander could a 3l V6 TR motor be fitted into a first gen magna cause later on down the track if my engine dies i think it would be cool to fit a V6 motor and a manual gearbox to my tp

Im sure it would be possible, you might need to get some differant mounts and stuff but it hink it would work.

yeah but arnt the 4cyl motors mounted in a east west position
where as the 6cyl are mounted in a north south postion
i wander if that would be a prob yeah get new engine mounts but with the TRs the engine bay is probably the same size with a 4 and 6 motor but the question is
is the tp engine bay big enough to cope with a v6 motor just curious has anyone ever done this with any magna 4 - 6 cylinder transfer

are you sure? because i thought they were only mounted like that for RWD, whereas all magnas are FWD...

4 cylinder TR/TS engine fits into a first gen engine bay. a 6 cyl TR/TS engine fits (obviously) into a TR/TS engine bay. putting 1 and 1 2gether here but i think it might fit. but yes, u will definately b needing custom engine mounts.

The motors are mouned the same way (east west)
its not possible unless u change the enghine mounts and by that time u have to get certificaton and the cost of changing th mounts then the cost of the motor, its just not worth it.....your better off getting a VR4 motor and slot that right it. aprantly they bold straigh up to the gen1 gearboxs too, A vr4 conversion would save u alot of money time and hassle :D

it will cost u around $4,500 (conservatively i read somewhere) to get the VR4 engine in. it is still a tricky job... it dosen't leave u too much room in the engine bay so not too much time may b saved. and as for hassle... i tell ya wat, anything to do with taking an engine out is time consuming and is a hassle.

yer but if u get a 2nd hand vr4 it wont cost u that much and the vr4 bolts up to out g/boxs and if the v6s dont then ull need one from a gen2....., but the vr4 being a 4cyl it would be cheaper in the long run, petrol/rego etc

and a bucket load faster than the 2nd gen v6!

like i said i am poor i have no money and im talking like 4 years down the track or maybe 2 cuase i might be getting an apprenticship as a mechanic and if i survive that long my motor will probably be dead by then and maybe by that time i can pick up a cheaper v6 engine and put that in or at least convert the existing magna i got to manual if the motor doesnt die by then to tell you the truth i dont even know what the hell a vr4 motor is ive just seen it written in almost every post about a motor

i was referring to someone who had put in a 2nd hand VR4 :D the secondhand engine and gearbox and all the labour etc to put it in was $4,500.

a VR4 engine is from a mitsubishi galant. turbo, 2.0L 4 cylinder, double overhead cam (DOHC)... has 195hp.

"The VR-4 adds a more advanced 4WD system, similar to the one used in Mitsubishi's 3000GT, and adds a 195-horsepower turbocharged engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel steering, leather interior, and bold exterior trim."

Galants (http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2075)

it may be cheaper cause its a 4 cylinder... but more expensive cause of the turbo. so it will probably even out to a 6 cylinder. if i was going to have to put a whole new engine in my car... i would forget it and just go and buy another car hey. more reliable... stock and can build on it from there. instead of heavily modifying ur car to suit an engine thats not sposed to b there!

I may be selling my current V6 12 valve soonish. It is only just over a year old with around 30,000km's on it. you would get it complete with loom and ecu, maybe even gearbox
Just send me a PM if your interested

well with my vr4 conversion so far i have encountered the following problems
-TN gearbox isnt a direct bolt up, require drilling through the bell housing
-right hand engine mount must be replaced with a VR4 one, which must be modified to fit the magna mount position.
-Engine just fits under the bonnet

All of these can be overcome but, so dont get discouraged

and how much did the conversion cost Sogg all up? including labour etc... if u dont mind me asking? this is with a second hand engine isnt it?

Engine cost me $2650 which included ecu and loom
Labour will cost around $2000
And all other misc stuff like intercooler, exhaust, clutch, gauges, pod filter, brakes will come to around $3000

Its still not finished yet, the mech is still mucking around with the wiring which has caused abit of a challenge. Hopefully it will be ready by the end of the month. As it is still in undercoat and has to go back to the panel beaters for the final spray

Well, the Sheep had the V3000, so there's proof that the V6 fits in the bay. Judging from the difference with the second gens, there's quite a bit between the towers that does need to be changed, so it ain't gonna be easy.

don't the astrons spin anti clockwise and are mounted in the engine bay the opposite direction to most other east west motors. astrons have the gearbox on the right most front wheel drives have the g'box on the left and i think the V6 magnas have the g'box on the left too. if u were to do this conversion u would have to adapt the subframe from under a V6 gen2 into your gen1 not just the engine mounts.

As far as I know as I have enquered about changing my 4 cylinder TR to a V6 its not impossible within reason, that being money. You're probably better off buying a V6 TR for $3000 - $4000, selling ur current car and it will only cost you around $2000 for that, plus you get a newer model. I don't know myself, I have always enjoyed the idea of modifying my 4 banger for the fun that would come with it, but for me I'm looking at selling and buying a 140kw TE and losing $2,500 for an upgrade in engine, shape and model. With $2,000 - $2,500 I can go from 85kw to 140kw plus get a better looking car inside and out with more features and what not.
