I took my car into the exhaust shop today to have the pacemakers fitted. When I went back in to check on the progress the guy told me he had to modify the Y piece by cutting it shorter to fit between the two headers. The instructions don't mention anything about having to do this, all they say is that you need to cut the existing pipe and join it to the Y piece. He also told me that they were hanging very low and when I had a look they were actually close to 100mm lower than the cross member. Now none of this sounds rite to me, so what I am wanting from my fellow AMCer's is:

Did anyone else have to have their Y piece shortened to fit between the two headers?

How low do your Pacemakers sit in comparison to the cross member?

And if anyone has any photos from under the car showing the placement of the extractors and their relative hight to the cross member?

Any help/advise and or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Luke

They are hte same number and they will sit about 12mm lower on a 3.0 than a 3.5 motor

Either they were faulty OR were not fitted correctly, on a 3.0 it is vital to leave both headers loose, do up the engine pipe and then do the headers up and then have the car running asap to full temp to allow them to warm up and settle into shape. Sounds like the spanners fitting them did the headers up and then tried to fit the pipe and as a result rooted a perfectly good pair of headers

They will hang low, this is sadly the case with Pacemaker which is a benefit of the HM that you do not get the low hang of them but you will need to simply adjust your driving to suit the lower clearence

Thanks for that Mal, so I will more than likely have problems with exhaust leaks from the heads to the extractors now. Great :facepalm

Nah mate a place up on the coast.
I downloaded the fitting instructions tonight and I'll take them into him tomorrow and show him his mistake. Pacemaker probably did this to compensate for expansion and contraction. I hope I don't end up with any problems because of this. I highly doubt it will he will pay for a new set of extractors but if I end up having any leak issues he will wish he did because I'll make sure he get the worst reputation around...

Where did you download the fitting instructions from? What muffler shop did you use (so I know where to avoid)?

I downloaded the instructions from the Pacemaker web site. Considering the fact that you live in Qld I highly doubt that you will end up at an exhaust shop down in NSW so I wont bother mentioning any names.

I live on the boarder, 5mins from Tween Heads NSW. My car is regularly worked on and serviced in NSW.

Yeah but I still doubt that you will end up in this work shop mate seeing as though you would have to travel 10 hours to get to it. Only people like EGO travel that far to get work done on their car. :woot:
