A magna's alarm wont go off if you break a window, only goes off when a door is opened. Depends if you have valuables like stereo, gps etc that you dont want pinched from a smash and grab but then again they can grab allot of stuff before anyone notices the alarm anyway.

im talking aftermarket one
For a few dollars you can instal a kill switch to either cut power to the fuel pump or the CAS. Add a few relays and it will also sound the horn if someone tries to start the car without switching the switch off. Very simple and effective in stopping joy-riders.

I've always been a fan of the mongoose m80g. But in nsw the alarm can only sound for 3x30s, and that's not quite enough to stop someone keen to steal your stuff. They can just smash the window, wait 2 mins, come back and take what they wish

alarms are a woftam = waste of f#@king time and money

True, alarms only have limited uses, largely limited by how close you are to respond. It's a major problem with jap performance cars, they're hot targets and there was nothing from factory. I remember a guy saying he bypassed his mates professionally installed 3 point immobiliser in 5 minutes to prove a point. All an alarm and immobiliser can do is slow a skilled thief down hopefully long enough for them to give up for your you to get back.
If they can bypass an immobiliser they can probably smash up the gps sender, or rewire it if it's function wired into the ignition.

A hidden, customised kill switch is often effective too. Finding some crucial component, eg: fuel pump, and putting a switch in the line. It'd be a pain in the ass to find for a thief as though they may be more than technically competent, they will have no idea where this random person decided to install the switch.
If you're really paranoid about the car being stolen (perhaps rightfully so) a high quality steering wheel lock and wheel lock can result in a flatbed being required to move your car, which has happened lol.

I have an aftermarket alarm installed into my factory one. It adds glass breakage, tilt, shock and window closing to my factory system. It is quite sensitive and so I cannot shut the boot with the doors locked for instance as it sets off the shock sensor. It was in the car when I bought it.
It therefore is possible to upgrade the factory system.

I upgraded my TL with a Viper unit with a pair of Ultrasonic detectors and auto windows closing when arm. That should cover the glass breakage problem.
