i have a question.. i accelerate and my handbrake light comes on... its only till i get from 1st to second gear once in second it goes away.... what does it mean? is it bad?? i have a 2004 tl is it still safe to drive?
1. Check/Service your handbrake
2. Check/Service for any fluid leaks in the brake system
Be careful if your going on the "unauthorised" MCA cruise today through the hills.

Only when you accelerate quickly in 1st gear, or even mild acceleration?
If it's only when you accelerate quickly, it could be that the force of the acceleration is causing your handbrake lever to rock back a little, just enough to trigger the dash light.
Especially if your handbrake lever is loose & sloppy.
On my 380 I had to perform some minor surgery on the handbrake lever surround. It was catching very slightly on the lever, enough to hold the lever up just a couple of mm, and that couple of mm was enough to trigger the dash light although the handbrake wasn't on at all.
But I could be way off the mark, just throwing it out there!
Also check the fluid level in the brake fluid resivour?
