Do you have a ball park figure on the cost of this setup? i'm sure there are a lot or Astron owners interested in something like this
2.8 litre 4cylinder? thats massive!!!

10-07-2004, 12:37 PM
hmm...... that engine bay looks different to mine somehow....
madmagna.... cant u do that to my car too?? lol

10-07-2004, 04:51 PM
few questions.
firstly just out of curiosity how much did it cost him for the turbo set up? not including boring out costs. (2.8L 4 cylinder is just tooo big).
and two what components were used? and approximately how much power will that give him at the wheels?
mercury
10-07-2004, 04:52 PM
damn he'll be ripping huge muffs everytime he rips traction
the headers look very nicely done.
MagnaArt
10-07-2004, 06:06 PM
Ok,the cost was around 10 grand,so far!
NOT CHEAP!
unsure of the Turbo Pricing.
And i think he is considering getting LSD,Cusco of course off of the FTO's
soon as i get some Footage,THE BETTER!
thow he does have to take it pretty lightly for a while hehe!
Next time i see him i'll see if i can get an APPROXIMATE amount on the WHOLE
setup!
Also, sorry for the 56k Ppl,including me,for the Pics gettin loaded off another site, jus thinkin
of AM space 1st!
Killbilly
10-07-2004, 06:11 PM
considering LSD?
he'll NEED one!
MagnaArt
10-07-2004, 06:33 PM
As far as i know.
Pretty sure he'd be gettin it in
Also has VR-X brake on it too :D
RPW can bore the 2.6's out to a 2.9 :P ....although for a turbo application maybe thats too far  biggest 4cyl ever

Not ever...my mate's dad's 6wd landcruiser is a 4 litre 4 cylinder ;)
whoa

really big
:bowrofl:
10 grand.... if he just sold his magna he could've bought something thats factory turbo and getting better times, if not better times probably more reliable since its like deisgned to be a turbocahrged engine.
Chief
12-07-2004, 08:31 PM
Yes I think I would rather sell the TR and get a 97 WRX for $17k myself but all that aside, good luck with it I say, as it's a big risk and takes courage to do.

Who cares?
We don't need stupid comments like this. He chose to do something that was unusual. He did it because it's what he WANTED to do.
And this motor has been rebuilt FOR a turbo, so it IS designed for turbocharging.
Keep your silly comments to yourself.

Exacttly, well said Killbilly.
Some people love there cars and want more power from the SAME car, not everyone cares about what is easier.
I think it's great to see a variety of cars being moddified, it'll be a bit borring if everyone did up only certain type of cars , thats what the moddified car scene is about "Doing different things" not buying premade out of the box cars :D

13-07-2004, 10:44 AM
touchy :P i sometimes wished i had have bought a turbo car instead of turbocharging mine, but thats like 1% of the time!
i bet he would do it again if he had the opertunity to go back in time. it would just cost less and be easier to do because he would know what to do  its a dam good setup/job he has done tho

Each to there own. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is no right or wrong in this and you have to respect the fact that he is going against what society would normally think he should do for his own enjoyment. After all money is just a bit of paper and I think we base too much of our lives on having more paper than anyone else because we think it will make us happy (which it doesn't) and that we probably spend too much time trying to look good or fitting in with what society thinks we should be doing, so I take my hat off to him for having a go and doing what he really wants to do.

if he had have spend the money on a stock turbo car he would have just spent more money modding it further. i think he has done very well
MagnaArt
14-07-2004, 08:29 AM
Yeh,1 of the Reasons he did it is cause having a TR Turbo is Unique,He had to of Course strengthen the internals,So it's ready for Turboing etc.
If you have the $$$ then it would be good, but he had to wait quite a while for it,and i know he would'nt do it again as it took ages till he got it back,Still all good thow :D

Cos it was built at RPW ;)
But yer, the car kicks ass... maginificent peice of engineering :D

It's easier than you guys think to turbo the astron. The starion came to the us with the astron engine They made the internals stronger Forged Connecting rods and a hardened Crankshaft. The only thing We have to do is buy forged pistons and we can boost as high as we want. I will be running 18PSI when I complete my engine. I would go higher than that but I have the stock pistons.

i drove this magna before it was turboed and it held its ground against most v6 v8 commodores(and the odd v8), so i cant wait to drive it after the motor is bedded in, and feel the difference
RPW like always is takin ages with it, it went in feb i think, slow ass bastards, i wont be takin my magna back there, they are brilliant, but they take ages, as my mate found out.
Chief
10-08-2004, 11:38 AM
Yeah I think everyone pretty much knows that RPW do a good job but are just bloody slow. I was waiting 2.5 weeks for my air filter until I finally got a refund cos it was taking too long.

Dont get me wrong RPW does excellent work! just that most people dont want to wait longer than they need to! im proud to tell people that my car was done by RPW!! but i will tell them that need to be ready to be without the car a little longer than usual. , thats all i have to say here :D
my mate will be over the moon that he will be getting his car back within the next few days :D , i cant wait to drive it!

hi all i'am justin the owner of the MAGNA in question firstly i like to say RPW does an outsanding job in what they do, I'am very pleased with the result. Shes looking a bit different now in her last stage all the piping is painted and the manafold is ceramic coated hope to get her back soon and go on some cruises and lots of drag meets.
to answer some of ur questions my car has taken 6 months to complete but i am very much looking forward to her return and my anticipation on her performance is high. :D

Hi Welcome...:)
Are u gonna kit the car up? coz the radiator like looking intercooler just looks out of place with that cut out bumper.. or is that a radiator?
CHEERS
Jussy
16-08-2004, 09:22 PM
That is the intercooler the cores run up and down not all cores run side to side, Its sprayed black now and the 4MUFF plates r gone cuz i want a sleeper and i'am taking the cannon muffler off aswell. I dont want any attention from the cops(cuz i aint got permits and they're damn hard to get 4 this kind work) and it gives the WTF factor to the ppl ya race.
Jussy
16-08-2004, 09:26 PM
Oh as 4 the big cut out in the bumper theres absolutly no room in the frount of a TR to mount an intercooler so ya have to loose half ya bumper.

17-09-2004, 07:33 AM
Hey Dude,
what stuff have you done to the internals of your motor?
Jussy
17-09-2004, 09:47 PM
everything lightend and ballenced, forged pistons, port work on the head, over sized valves, stiffend valve sprigs, bored cylinder head, astron perormance oil pump assy, heavy duty timing chain, adjustable vernier cam gears, stage 2 rolla turbo cam.
theres a few more little things but i forget

Jussy nice work on the car very well done.
I just wondering how much did it cost to change from auto to manual and how much work was it?
Chief
30-09-2004, 12:50 PM
For for all the other 2nd gen Magna owners like myself, this would cost over $10,000 ? I hear $5000 one day, $10,000 the next. Which one is it?
Jussy
14-03-2005, 08:06 PM
all up its round 16-18k for the turbo convertion and ecu but ive spent more than that  allways have money to spear thow.

holy crap, is it done yet? looks awesome
apparently this cars been turned to ****, its f***ked up, ive seen this car up close when it was at overboost, with Monga's magna, mines goin up there soon only to Overboost, and i roughly have the same mods as this car does, there will be fingers crossed that all things go well, this post might have died, but im goin to add some life to it, im hoping to be the 1st magna TR to run over 200hp with no probs later down the track, but unlike other people ill have videos and lots of pics if you need them, also not to mention no cutting up my bumper, the custom front makes a nice frame for the intercooler.

Mate, I would be watching that mouth of yours, for starters, your not the 1st, that car has run close to 300hp from his setup. The car has not turned to ****, its alive more than ever before, and in the next couple of months you will be seeing a sh*tload more of it.
Its been in the shadows mainly because Justin has a life. Its called morgage and kid and wife, for those who have these 3, they will know its not easy to just throw money around.
Monga will not compare to justins TR mainly because the modifications do not go as extensive as whats in Justins. Thats why monga was/is for sale, the engine is not properly setup. because you cant run high boost through a pretty much stock 2.6.
lastly, big whoop you got a front bar made up, once again, your not the first. There is nothing wrong with the front bumper on justins TR only plastic has been removed, the re-inforcements are still in place and therefor completely legal.
Lastly, the TR has everything completely engineered and everything is permitted on that car. So if you have a TR that pulls close to 300hp, is fully engineered and has permits including the BOV, then you can start kicking up a stink.
No need to go bagging someones car, you have a problem with his car, im more than willing to give you his number and you can call him.
