Hey All. OK, I have a trip computer in the Magna (ex a KF). All works well, except the KM's to empty bit. If I fill up to the brim and reset the trip meter, it says I have 560km's to empty. It then seems to wind it's way down pretty quick (atm, I have 210km's on the trip meter and the TC says I have 260km's fuel distance left). The litres consumed are working fine - they've been within 1 litre of how much fuel I'm putting in.

Question is; can you reset the trip computer without pulling the battery for 1/2 hour and relearning everything? Or do I just ignore it, knowing it's not working right?

Interestingly; it did actually work right once - it recorded I had 710km's to go when I filled up. Then it would only go up to 650kms, now it's 560.

Regards, Tony

mm sounds like it's been set for Wagon. There will probably be a reset function without having to disconnect the battery but I don't know what it is soz.

It can't predict accurately how far the fuel will take you because it doesn't know you're averagve fuel consumption over that time. It has to use past fuel consumption, and since you're probably not driving the EXACT same route in the EXACT same conditions it will have to vary a bit.

I haven't really paid much attention to mine at the high end, I generally wait till the petrol light comes on then switch to range so I can monitor how urgent it is getting.

I'd agree with Galois, although on my TL the range to empty disappears once it gets to 120km and the fuel light comes on. I figure it's designed that way to panic you into filling it before it runs out and stuffs the fuel pump.

yeah my DTE disappears once my fuel light comes on too.

On my TJ wagon, once i hit half a tank it takes about 100km off the 'range' Eg; 200km instead of say 300km.

Whilst in 'range' if you hold down mode until it beeps it will change the 'range' to the right Km Ie; back to 300km. It doesn't however wipe your other info - litres per 100, trip etc.

If find it extremely accurate for litres used and range.

Your initial fill-up range will just be your last average litres per hundred km divided by how much is in your tank. Doesn't matter if it states 700km or 560km it is purely how you drive.

Light should come on with about 10 litres left.

Maybe it's using an initial preset fuel consumption and corrects itself as you use the tank? Mine displays range up until 50km to go, was scary when I first discovered that, I thought was stuffed
