It's in the manual.
Put key in ignition, turn on and off three times fast, leave ignition on, when indicator lights flash on instrument cluster, press any key on the new remote, repeat for any others you have. Instrument indicator lights flash to acknowledge remote has been coded. Works on a TJ anyway.

Get out of car, remove key first, close door, try out the remote.

What MadMax said. The learning procedure is in the manual. Like he said, you'll need to repeat for all the remotes you have attached to your car, not just the new one.

Go through MitsFix or shoot Madmagna a PM, he's based in Heathmont (eastern suburbs).

Instructions to fix your remote and to code it, I would recommend pre-emptively adding some hot glue or something before it breaks :P

While we are on remotes, what's the cheapest way to get a new one? My TJ 3 button effort has buttons that don't work well, and the boot lid popper sets off the alarm most of the time. lol

Try eBay. We bought one for mine on there about 2 yrs ago for a good price and one for my grandmother's 04 TL about 3 months ago. They start from around $50 range to bout $90.

Second hand ones I'm not interested in, new ones too expensive. Might just try soldering in new switches.

Nah. I opened it up, one of the switches has come adrift from its 4 little soldered feet. Should be fixable, I will see tomorrow if I can get some replacement switches. The little mofos tend to go inconsistent after 10 years. lol
