Hello.. I have the 2.6L 1989 TP Elante with 88,000 km on the clock. (brought of an old man who drove it to church on weekends)
My question. The Mods on the AussieMagna site will they work on my 2.6 L. And with out going too overboard would the pod filter, stage 1 cam, fuel pressure reg and extractors make this little beast go good..
If anyone out there knows the ans would love to know...
Thankz in advance.

They r strong engines...same used in the sigmas...(i thinK)
they go very well with a blow job (super-charger)
But all the above mods should go onto your engine and with all those ull have a mad beast which will suprise anyone! good luck in your travels!

yes unfortunatly it has that noisy chain when u start it for the first 10 seconds. then she is pretty quiet..
also has any1 else had a problem with the fuel gauge. Seems like its a common problem not to work properly. any idea how to fix???
Hey TP i had an elante,
got extractors put on it and it went alot quicker definatly tell the difference
mind u i had a 2.5" exhaust system straight off them to the back with a huge muffler,
i replaced the stock air filter aswell, with a K & N one, it fits inside ya air box,
its still in brand new nick, sitting in my room
that'd do ya good too, if ya were looking at buying one i sell it to ya for cheap

my fuel guage only goes up to 3/4 when the tank is overflowing. mum reckons it goes really slowly thru the top half of the tank but i dont reckon so. if ne1 has ideas on fixing that it'd be great.
as for mods i got extractors and 2 1/4 cat back. Easily smashes VK's even some VL's (if stock). the guy at the exhaust place said if u went over 2 1/4 on an astron it makes strange sounds. but i've never actually heard it. i'm happy with my 2 1/4.
let us know what u do and what increase u get. i need ideas for mine :D

Hey me again.
Still have not started the mod's but been getting all the small stuff done. its just done 95,000 km's so its all tuned up and new tires.
Will be looking into pricing now for the things i want done.
Will keep u informed.
when i went to get my extractors the guy said they dont even make em larger than 2.25"
good enough anyway :)
with the k&n/360 pod, dont get the 360 pod! it'll more than likey have an adverse effect :? k&n is all ya need anyway atm :P

Hey SG.
Wot u done to your's.
I want the 2 1/4 exghaust system but which k&n filter is the one to get.??
All im gonna say is congrats on buying a Elante
I have a TN Elante. Its all stock except a few mod cons, put the cd stereo, keyless entry and cruise control in myself.
IM not going for performance mods myself, i just want it running well. I think it needs a new clutch, and its idling high and a lil rough, gonna work that out sometimes.
Just so u know i bought my car a few months back (5 - 6) and its got 170,000 on it. Its a feb 89 so its the last of the TNs. I love my car :)

hmm well i've got kind of a whole-different air intake setup from stock, and its kinda just sucking in all hot air really at the moment. (going to get a bonnet scoop later when i get afford a bodykit :?) i'd just say a replacement filter (same type as the one u have now) would be the best way to go at the moment.. unless ya wanna spend heaps of money :?
i got an upgraded carb, ported intake manifold, and circular type k&n air filter thingo from RPW all as one.. also got the extractors done the day after and theres definetly a whole lot more power & fuel economy there :)

mine is EFI. This is my first EFI car so i have on idea wot u can do for that.
hm u could probly upgrade the throttle body... stuff like that and upgrade the efi chip :? tho thats a bit expensive
then ported intake/head, extractors, cams, fpr, etc.. same as any other car :)
not too sure what you can do without spendin alotta money if ya already have exhaust/extractor mods

If you own an efi the best mods for a large capacity 4 would have to be exhaust, throttle body, polished intake, and extractors. In that order.
Know anyone good with ECU's? friends installed an EMS unit onto a 2.6 efi with just exhaust work and it dyno'd 82kw, They are fairly de-tuned from the factory as you would imagine to only have 90 odd kw at the fly wheel.
This bloke now does low 16's in his auto TP :) can almost beat my charade ;)

Thankz Guys..
gettin the exhaust done is no probs but wot do i need to do to the throttle body and which intake
I was think that u would be able to get more Kw's out of a 2.6L as i remember when i had my Mazda 1974 model 929 Coupe (RX4 Body) it had 1.8L in it.. we bored it out to a 2.0L and it was blowin 186 Torries off the road.
My Elante takes off quicker than most cars off the lights.. 2nd kinda sucks but 3rd flies and same with 4th. would of thought doin the about mods and she should be hittin 95-100 at least

PS:- Im not after top speed.. i drive it like a go-kart. the back street's with the sharp corners and the nice new chicain they buil up the street. 8)
So far it goes well.. got new shocks in the garage. getting lowered HD springs in a few weeks. and she'll be apples.

Lowered with new shocks will make a magna feel like a go kart, rough ride but god dam it will corner good
What do you guys think is a good suspension and spring set for TP magnas, lowered a bit to make it look nicer and some nice shocks? gimmie names, i need names.
hmm u might have a bit of trouble finding lowered springs for the car... i went to super cheap auto and they rang a King Springs distributer but only had the stock sized springs... then i went to a suspension speciallist and i think they had to order a set of lovells from around sydney/melbourne depending on whether or not they had any on the shelves (if they didnt they'd have to order some from overseas.. probly made up specifically)
so yer, theres not alotta options for these cars :?
a strut bar would b good for handlin aswell, but that might have to be just about custom made too

I have only got the Shocks so far.. Been slack.. But they are Monroe GT Gas (the new version) .. I have a mate i need to see for the springs but u can get Heavy Duty Lowered springs for the Magna. I will post brand and price when i get em. :D
Is lukey a muffler brand or exhaust? like the whole thing? i think i'd get catback 2.25 or 2.5 but that depends on price and stuff.. theres a place at albion called aussie exhaust, i rekon im gonna ring them today and see what they have to say about something for the magna.
TPElante

i would go either a 2 or 2 1/4 inch.. anything bigger on the 2.6 astron will make it sound like shit.
im gonna get 2 inch cat back.
hmm doesnt make it sound like shit.. 2.5" extractors make it sound like shit - you just lose a chunk of torque in the low revs... better mid/top end tho :) extractors only come in 2 1/4 inch i think, so i'd go 2 1/4 for the rest of the exhaust aswell if ya not plannin for a turbo or nothin.. u'd still probly lose a bit of torque tho above 2" or the standard system
I'll ring some exhaust places tomorrow and get some prices on a system for the magna, anyone got any ruff prices i can go against for like 2 1/4 exhaust system? cause i'll probably get one of those lukey mufflers too (so thats like 200 odd + whatever the ruff price is).

my 2.25" sports exhaust cost me $190 with a 3" chrome tip. thats just using the cheap fairly dodgy muffler that went with the system... if u want a good muffler it'll cost more.
And my lukey extractor were $235. easy to fit ur self
