just got a set of 16" factory mags, now need new tyres. SO many choices. The RE92s on the old 15" were fine for me, but they are only in 15". Ringing around, here are some prices on offer:
Teo Plus 215/60 $179
B'stone Turanza ER30 215/60 $159
B'stone Turanza ER300 205/60 $199
Goodyear Assurance AG 215/60 $149 (from Kmart, guy raved about their quietness).
As I'm a cheapskate, and looking for quiet tyres, more than anything, the Goodyear appeals to me. ANy thoughts, anyone?

It good being a cheap but not when it come to tires :) You will a 215/60/R16 tire so that counts out one of the choices :)
Any of those will be good, Bridgestone are good brand. So that would be my choice out that lot :)

Bridgestone DAYTON, 215 X 60 16", at $108. Have a pair on the front of the TS V6 on KJ alloys, seem to be ok, a quiet tyre, but haven't had them long so I have no idea about wear rate.
Like you, I'm used to RE92 on 15" steel rims, and the DAYTON are actually better - could just be the lower profile and 1 cm extra width though. You have to ask for them at the Bridgestone dealer as they would prefer to sell you the ER30s. Probably more profit in selling those. lol
Yokohama C drive or A drives are good too, but more expensive.
The difference between 15" 205 X 65 and 16" 215 X 60 is only 2.5% in rolling circumference so you can keep a 15" rim as a spare, just don't forget to keep 5 of the original wheel nuts in the car as the wheel nuts for the alloy rims won't work on the 15" steel wheel. Embarasing if you need to change a tyre by the side of the road and you don't carry the wheel nuts with you. lol

MadMax,
thank god you reminded me. I'd completely forgotten about the nuts. Yes, very inconvenient if no nuts......

Yeah, I had a sudden flash of insight a few days after I put the alloys on. lol Doesn't happen too often . . . .

Thanks guys, didn't think of that. The VRX alloys I have on now use 21mm nuts with a washer & a flat face. The steel spare needs tapered nuts, I have four, but they are 19mm.
So I now have the four tapered nuts plus a 19mm socket in the boot in case I get a flat. Would have been stuffed without the nuts & socket!

back to tyres: does anyone have any experience with the Goodyear Assurance?

if 225/50/16 is an okay size in terms of rolling diameter?
I'd go the Kumho KU31 in this size on eBay at the moment for $109 each (though you have to ship em to SA).
Or check if you can get them locally at a competitive price.
Great tire for the money.
