i got a tj im setting up to be used for towing a caravan
as we have 5 in our family and hooking a caravan up the rear pretty much on its ass
is there such a thing as towing springs for a magna?
or is the oversized springs that kings do the only option
i have been told tow springs are same height as standard just thicker meaning holds more weight.
the rear shocks are ok but i will put new ones on when i get the right springs
thanks for anyone that can help

Might also want to install a transmission oil cooler to prolong your fluid life under towing conditions.

+1 for trans cooler..
I'd probably just go with standard height heavy duty springs.
Not sure who's available in Qld but I've had a few springs made by a local springmaker who makes whatever you ask for!! Always been good springs and half the price of Kings / Lovells etc!
(I've got kings on the magna but got them cheap second hand!)
I'd reckon you would need to first find the ball weight of the van, then get a weight distribution hitch for that ball weight, then see how it looks. With a family of 5 on board you are carrying virtually the maximum weight allowable for your car and any additional weight from the van even with a WDH may make the unit very unstable irrespective of fitting heavier springs. The manual says with a WDH, the ball weigh is 150KG max, and this mass has to be subtracted from the maximum payload of
408KG (340KG passengers and 68KG luggage) so if, for example your ball weight is 100KG you will only be legally able to carry a payload in the vehicle of 308KG. So you would be really sailing close to the wind. Fitting heavier springs at the rear will also change the handling when the vehicle is not towing. There are other options for beefing the suspension up but all will cost probably more than changing to a vehicle more suited to towing like a Falcon. ( no disrespect meant!)
I hope the above makes sense - I've been looking for a van and have limited my search to one that has a tare of under 1000KG. Good Luck.

Dobinsons make a HD rear spring, in both std and low. I have them in mine, changed to them after the rears were hitting the bumps going to Perth with a full load, 2 adults 2kids and full boot and backseat. I was tucking rim bigtime but was bad for compliance. Changed to the Dobinsons, and with the same load and extra stuff the rear was still 1/1/2 inch above the tyre to the arch. Didn't hit the stops once.
It's a thicker spring to compared to the Kings.
