I'm actually considering using the 1997 Mitsubishi Verada as a parts car as a result of recent difficulties with inspections and registration. I have a similar model car in my sights, something like a 1996/1997 TE/TF Executive.

I'm wondering what parts or upgraded features I should take across from the KF Verada to the TE/TF when it comes time to swap the parts over, but i'm also interested in knowing what parts would generally be sought after from a Verada as i'm probably going to sell off a fair bit of it. This is what i'm thinking, off the top of my head:

- Parabolic Headlamps
- Orange Indicators (in some cases)
- Fog Lights
- Verada Chrome Rear Garnish
- Power Window System
- Climate Control System
- Black (Leather?) Steering Wheel
- Two-Tone Dashboard Trim
- C-Pillar Map Lights
- Front Seat Map Lights
- Chrome Interior Door Handles
- Engine Cover
- Cruise Control System/Parts
- 3.5L 24-Valve V6 Engine (165,000kms, someone out there may be able to use it)
- All Associated Engine/EFI Electronics
- Mitsubishi 380GT 17-inch Wheels with Kumho Tires (50% Tread)

This car has leather as well, but it's condition is fairly poor. Back seat pieces may be usable (they didn't appear too bad) but the fronts are a definite no. Airbags aren't deployed as the car hasn't been in an accident. It also has ABS, but i'm not certain of the difficulty involved in swapping it over (and safety concerns as a result of it).

Can anyone else think of anything i may have missed here?

Also, if I have a complete Climate Control system, I understand it's a major job but would having every piece of the system (including wiring) readily available make it a job worth doing? I don't mind standard AC but if I can use the Climate Control, then I may as well do it.

Cheers :)

woodgrain, taillight and boot garnish setup, maybe the front rocker cover with the brackets to go with the engine cover.

What is so bad about this car that you are looking to scrap the car, surely, especially in SA where they would register a billy cart with a wheel missing lol

Personally, if I had the Verada and it had say $500 to spend on it vs another car and then having to do all that work to change stuff over, I would keep the Verada unless there was a very severe issue

What are the actual issues with this car mate, surely there are a few SA boys who could spend a few hours on a Saturday and lend a hand here lol

It has a tiny tiny oil drip and needs lhs doors and guard put on, then that many paint touch ups it might as well be a full respray. Paint is probably the $$ killer.

I'm after something that's a runner from the get-go for once. lol

The front guard and passenger doors need to be swapped and colour matched. There's a decent sized piece of the paint completely missing with what looks to be some kind of body filler behind it in a rear quarter panel, and some surface rust has formed in this area. The same is happening to a small portion of the bonnet. Each corner of the car has paint damage to the bumpers, and at least one corner appears to have some damage to the bumper itself. After that, the roof, bootlid, the other front guard and the rear quarter panels need to be repainted.

Transmission Fluid is jet black and smells burned. I didn't notice anything strange with the transmission the last time it was driven, but it was only a low speed run.

Engine Oil is slowly leaking from the rear head camshaft seal, behind the cam gear.

Interior trim is fairly worn, front seat leather is split in a few places. Door card leather is also cracked. Carpet and headliner is probably salvageable, but they need a decent clean. The stereo/climate fascia needs to be replaced as some of the screw points are cracked.

Then it needs to be inspected.

After all that the car's still going to be Wheelie Bin Green (Paint code index says it's Frontier Green but I have my doubts) lol. There's a number of other, smaller issues that need attention as well, like the fact the electric antenna is stuffed and the piece in the bumper that the fog light mounts in to was bent and rusted, but i've since removed this piece from the car.
