I have a TJ motor. ( bought from the wreckers ) Can I put TW heads on this motor.
The cam belt is different on late motors (possibly the heads are taller )
Anyone with first hand knowlege on this subject?

Maate,
check the engine serial number. If it's a 6G72 then it's a 3ltr and has a different size timing belt to the 6G74 3.5 ltr engine. If the engine number indicates a 6G74 then the heads are basically the same as what is in a TW. TW heads had number 6 camshafts fitted. If you remove the distributor and clean the camshaft face around the distributor drive slot you will see some numbers which indicate the camshaft profile. TJ series 2 engines (6G74 3.5 engines) had the number 6 camshafts fitted.
Note: Make sure you have the distributor rotor button pointing to the same position when you put the distributor back into the engine as it is possible to put it in 180 degrees out.
Cheers

Not speaking from actually ripping a 6g74 apart but pretty sure the belt is the same for all 6G74 SOHC. Also the power output on TJ series 2 is the same as TL, TW. My understanding the gain was from revised heads/cams. So if you're doing this for the higher output , the question is out of which TJ version did it come from?
What makes you say the Timing belts are different?

All 3.5 from TJ onwards had number 6 cam shafts, the valves are the same size infact the engines are identical. The only difference is the engine number and on the real late TW motors the blocks were more like the 380 blocks in so far as some of the bosses were different and the coolant drians were in the same place but used an 8mm allen key vs a 14mm bung.
The timing belt from TE to TW and then to the 380 are all the same
Pajero, Triton and Delica had the 3.5 SOHC but thse did have different timing belts as the water pump was slightly different however agian aside from that are the same

Dont forget the later 3.5L magna engines also had the lighter/thinner "380" style rods and lighter weight crank (to suit the rods)

Guys can you help me with compatibility of the 6G75 from a 2007 380 into a 2009 Triton ?
I want to swap crank and heads into the 6G74
What worries me is will the Triton flywheel bolt up the the 6G75 crank.
And the timing belt, The Triton series run from 2006 to 2009 when the 3.5 litre was discontinued

If you PM Magwheels he may know more as he has done a Magna 3.5 into a Delica, different car but is still north south engine. I know he had to mess around with a bracket as the cam angle sensor bolt holes did not exist in the magna head
Not sure of any other differences aside from this, afaik the flywheel is not an issue your main issues will be the cam angle sensor however having said that if you are using a complete 380 engine then you may be able to use the 380 one already there.
If you want to have a good look at a 380 engine, I have a few here, may be ale to make the general comparisons you need to make

the engine i put into the Delica was a 3.0 , not 3.5 unfortunately. the 6G74 engine / heads are spaced too far apart to fit the delica firewall.
as far as i know most Tritons were the 3.0 , even late models . i dont know when they appeared with the 3.5 in them.
Mitsu V6s in RWD bodies had the cam position sensor mounted to the l/h head , using a chopper disc on the cam sprocket. in fact its the same sensor as the Crank Angle Sensor , but with a different length of wire to the connector . the connector changed colour to grey to highlight the difference.
i didnt know that there were differences in timing belts and water pumps amongst the 24v engines. I bought a flood damaged Triton engine and all parts bolted to the Magna ( 6G72M ) engine
afaik all the 6 bolt flywheels interchange , i used a Pajero flywheel to the Magna crank with Triton sandwitch plate.
