View Full Version : Starter Problems big ones
hi all. just done an engine converstion (old one blew up) on my tj. everything is done but i have one problem, the starter motor will just click. not actually turn the motor over. this is driving me to tears as the car hasnt moved for 4 months i get the new engine in and now this F*&K.
any ideas as to why this is happening? and what i should to do to fix. ive heard the old give it a tap with a hammer trick and it doesnt work.
thanks in advance

Have you tested the Battery during that time?

maby your battery cant supply enough current to turn the motor, possibally flooded? (doubt it), starter motor has bad connections to wires or starter motor is dead?
mabey try getting a jump from a charged battery first and go from there
tried jump starting. but no go. will test the battery tomoro.

+1 for the battery becoming dead over the 4 months.

I'd check the battery, check and clean battery terminals and wires to the starter, a wire brush works wonders.

Did you reconnect the big fat earth to the bellhousing
Have you removed the starter to check that it is both thorwing the gear out and spinning up, will give an indication only as it may just be worn out and the brushes are no longer able to supply the current needed to crank
yeh rebolted the big fat earth to bellhousing. we took the starter out and tried it hooked up. and no go. i didnt get time today to do anything so ill be into it tomoro. new battery and new starter.
cheers guys
