So, as my car is written off, my sister is looking to put my engine into a 89 pajero. Thing is, i know there are differences but not what exactly.
If anyone out there has any info that would be great!
Have a look at www.outerlimits4x4.com. They have a mitsubishi section which has looked at Pajero and engine swaps. I would be careful about the gearbox with a 3.5 in it. The older Pajeros had some issues with gearboxes. Also, you could look at www.pajeroclub.com.au - they really have the lot with Pajeros.
Whatever, I imagine that you would have issues with the ecu, but otherwise, I reckon that the engine will physically fit into the space - don't ask me to help ytou though!!!

to my knowledge , the engine will physically bolt into the Pajero engine bay using the paj mounting brackets. the engine castings are the same in that area.
the Magna uses a rear distributor and the pajero uses coil pack ignition , so there is a fair bit of work to getting one going. better off with a 3.5 Pajero engine and ECU , etc in the first instance.

My dad just did this to his pajero, slightly newer than 89 but basically it wouldn't go and was quite different so the mech ended up using the heads/pistons out of the donor motor, put it into the pajero motor with honed bores and new crank bearings etc - so essentially a rebuild with some donor parts. (His paj had 260k, my magna engine had 140)

May differ to your model though, not sure.
