I've been wanting to upgrade my Muddy 12" Pioneer woofer for a while now.
The Kickers are tempting and loud, But I wanted a bit more SQ, so I've been looking upmarket a bit.
Looking at a JL Audio W3's , 600Watt RMS 13" (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=26)
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/images/11616.jpg
I can pump 380 Watts RMS to this little baby, puts it in the Optimum Zone.

Any have these, or the 300 watt series below them?
Thoughts?

JL audio are extremely nice SQ subs. But as shown at the last SQ comp. Jaycar 8" in the right box sounds better :)

I had a look at couple of others, Eartquake 10"s, quite liked those and I thought about the Response Series but I thought they dropped those for the Vifa ( whatever ) range, and I have heard much about those before.
But as it happens this sub is on an auction site for $245.00 Delivered. And I get to keep my old Box. I have an LPG tank, so the box has to go to the side and still fit under the Boot hinge of a Third gen.
Seems like a nice upgrade for $250, with no more to spend, same box, and no need for amp upgrade, the choices were limited by what I could run with my current Amp.
I've heard two of these powered off two seperate JL Audio Slash V2 1000w Mono amps, and I can tell you they both handle the power with ease (to my amazement), and almost literally blow the doors off (and by that I mean the doors were moving a good half an inch around the frames. This was in a hatch of course, and were part of a $7000 sound setup where the owner was a professional installer, so that figure was simply parts and materials. Very good subs, but need lots of clean power to really benefit.

W6 ALOT better sub.
And yep the jaycar 8" in a folded horn setup got more SQ bass tonal points then the W6!

The W3's are alright, they are more of a "All Rounder" as opposed the a SQ Sub.
I upgraded to 2 of these from 2 Pioneers and yes the bass was no where near as muddy, and i was quite happy with them quality wise since they could also wang at the same time.
In summary, go for it.

Yeah, thanks fella's.
Its sound as though it is what I am after.
Just hope the deal is OK, its sounds a bit too good to be true, so I made sure I used a protected Payment Method. 245 Delivered.
Shopbot found it for $645.00.
For a sealed box they recommend 1.5Cub Feet. My box is about 1.1cf, so I've found a local Audio joint with a Alpine Box for $60, its 1.45cf so that should do, unless I find an good box maker up here in Qld.

What if a chick sold them to me that cheap? Win win in my books. lol
JL holds a place in my heart for their subs. the W3s are definitely nice subs, but as much as I am a JL fanboy, the Image Dynamics IDQ subs pip them for a similar price imo. As ugly as they are (V2), the IDQs are stunning to listen to!
Another vote Image Dynamics subs- I have run a single JL W3 in a ported box and for an all rounder it is a very good performer.

Image Dynamics seem pretty popular for those in the know, but you might be disappointed if you head to there website.
But I don't think I can run DVC's. So its seems for the 250 mark, I'll be pretty happy.
I am going for a box 1.5cf, slot ported, about 420 x 430 x 600 tuned for 35Hz.
Made from 19mm MDF with a 21mm Front Board. As per the manual.
GL finding 19 and 21mm mdf :P
Just use 18mm all round, you will have no dramas with it. If you are putting the 2 subs beside each other in the same chamber, then you can always stick a small brace between the subs but it isnt necessary.

18mm Worked Fine for my box aswell even without internal bracing.

I'm calling in a favour from a Cabinet Maker, 18 will be fine if can't get thicker. Thanks again

Oh yeah, I'm Stoked.
I have to do some investigation, like what connectors are compatible to upgrade the Alternator to Battery +, and how long, and where is good spot to throw another engine to chassis earth.

Well my Sub arrived yesterday, and I thought it was too good to be true. They sent me a 12" W3V3-2 which runs at 2 Ohms, instead of my desired 13 inch 5-600 watt 4 ohm speakers.
So they offered me a 75 dollar discount to take, end result. $170.00 W3 300watt 2 ohm which is $412 at ryda.com.au.
Sub which is completely useless to me.
Gunna have to source it elsewhere, The 13.5" W3V3 - 4 ohm is $525 at ryda.com.au.

Im fairly sure the 12" w3's are 500w, not 300??
Edit: Ahh I see, the optimal of the 12" is 300w, but the power handling is 500w. And the 13" is optimal 400w..

FWIW: I have a JL 12W6V2 that has been running strong for the past 8 years- it's outlasted 2 amps so far!
