Hi all,
After an extensive search, it doesn't seem anyone has had this problem before?
I certainly hope it's an easy one for someone to help me out with;
Had the car (Verada Ei KJ Wagon 2001) for about 5 years now, just the other day the volume decided to get "stuck" on one level. Turning the volume button clockwise or anti-clockwise does not adjust the volume anymore. Pressing this button still turns the radio/CD on and off though.
Quite annoying as the level it is stuck on is just too quiet to hear while driving!!

Take the positive terminal off the battery for 15 mins. Should reset and fix the problem. Otherwise you need a new pot in the stereo or a new stereo

Go aftermarket. Sound improvement is far better.

Will remove the +ve terminal tonight and see how we go.
If no good, how difficult is it to replace the pot? I assume these are also relatively easy to get my hands on?

Jaycar will have it but you do need the right one and soldering skills

I would do that, but only need it working again as am looking to sell.

Cool, thanks - I don't, but I do know someone that is good on the irons......Cheers again
Hehe this reminds me of that Top Gear episode where they superglue James Mays volume knob on maximum, and play the really annoying doofy techno on repeat :)

No good with removing the +ve terminal on battery - volume is still stuck
Will start the search for the right pot replacement now
Just out of interest;
How much will a full stock H/U set me back from the wreckers - or, even better - anyone on here replaced their stock H/U and have one in their garage they would like to get rid of? (working of course!)
if a wrecker charged any more than $20-30 i'd be pretty unimpressed, they sure arent anything special.
Wreckers can be bloody expensive- I remember seeking a replacement VX comm original cd player for a car I sold- average price was $250 second hand! With CD/mp3 players selling from $80 new these days, surely they can't sustain that sort of premium. Ring around, but it may be cheaper to go aftermarket!

Don't bother with a second hand replacement, they won't be very reliable. Most wreckers remember the days when these were $1,000 or so new, were sought after second hand by people wanting to upgrade their tape player radios, and set their prices accordingly. Most people drop in an aftermarket unit - more features than the original, and even a $99 Sony special will sound better than the original.
A new MP3/AUX/Ipod compatible CD player in the car will be a good selling point.

Good point - something more for me to think about now before selling! :confused:

It's unusual to find a 10 year old car with the original radio still in it, most don't last that long. lol

Hahahah - yeah I get ya!
Would something like this be compatible with the KJ, considering the 4 CD stacker the original system has? Size-wise I mean?

I don't think thats mp3 capable, if you have a computer and can burn your own CDs, you can get about 16 CDs of audio onto one mp3 CD, like having a 16 disc stacker. lol
If the KJ unit is double DIN in size, and you replace it with a single DIN head unit, you also need the pocket that goes underneath it. JB Hi Fi have those I believe.

If you can turn the control infinitely in either direction and it has detented positions then it's not a potentiometer like the old style of controls but rather a digitally controlled volume. Easiest thing would be to find an original for ease of fitment and wiring. If you're selling the car then it should not affect the sale greatly, chances are whoever buys it will upgrade it anyway. Knock a $100 off the price and save the time, effort and hassle. I reckon you should be able to find a wreck, ebay (lancercity) , mitsfix etc for under $100.
