Hey,

Just got a K&N E-2875 oval pod filter and installed it in my first gen. Inside the airbox is good, with no airbox is better for throttle response. No idea about power gains but the throttle is definitly quicker which can only be good. No CAI yet but hopefully in the next few weeks - I have a few ideas.

Bypassing the MAF sensor sounds like a bit of a nightmare... you have to tell the ECU how much air you are getting in somehow. So maybe replace the mitsu honeycomb one or live with it but you definitly need one of somekind. Unless you only want to measure manifold air pressure (MAP) in which case youd have to get a whole new ECU.

I really dont have much of an idea about that so corrections are welcome but thats what I reckon.

oh yea, the filter costs ~$130 from autobarn.

Ive got the replacment KandN filter in my car and i highly susjest it, smoother throttal response, and i took the air ressonator box off that goes around the battury and doing that and putting the filter has a deeper note in the ezhasut and now when you floor it, it has a WICKED sound that it never had b4, but i have to make some type of CAI for it becuase ive noticed it hotter now and u can feel it hotter after a run cos the air box is very hot. ive got an idea to run a pipe from the box to the side of the battury and down.... ull notice a lil round plug next to the battury if u take that off then ull notice where it goes so i want to send the pipe down there

is it possible to remove the piping after the maf sensor you know it runs up the side of the enginge bay over to the battery maybe that can be removed and then make a pipe to replace it that could work as the cold air intake or maybe connect a pipe into that one itself like drill a big hole and make a pipe that heads towards the bottom of the engine remmeber its after the maf sensor would it affect it

I got the idea after looking at the engine bay for 10 seconds, just make cai and still use the maf... just extend the wiring?.. a 2nd gen dude did it exactly as i would have done it, he got some big rubber bends and **** and dropped the filter and maf down under at his front bar and just extended the wiring cause like has previously been said, you need to get an aftermarket ecu to delete the maf (like on many cars).. so im gonna do it, wait for pics and how i did it "tech sheet" if you will, probably be a while since im too lazy to actually go find appropriate bends etc.. oh warning Cold air affects your insurance, if you have fire theft etc.. so ring up your mob and ask them, most things have like a rating scale and like exhuast and mags are equivalent to cold air, i dont know why but it is, modifing your engine weighs more in the scheme of things to them..

i had a big night last night so i hope this makes sence.. i'll throw it all up in main points

Point: If you get rid of your maf without using an aftermarket ecu eventually your engline will no longer work (and run like **** up to that point)

Point: making cai and keeping the maf is really simple and easy

Point: i think i might go throw up

Point: taking off the intake resonator and then grinding a bigger hole in the front of the metal cover that goes over your air filter will help some if you cbf'ed to make cai.

Point: the end is nie

edit: TPSE if you mean put piping AFTER the maf would this affect it? of course, cause the car thinks its getting little air and really its getting heaps so your fuel/air ratio would be way off, just wait for me to do mine and you'll have cai the safe and 'proper' (to a degree) way.

I'll tell you a story about this MAF thing..

Once upon a time there was a company called mitsubishi and they produced a car called a magna and they used a design flaw that most other cars dont have, its the oval air filter and the 'tumbling' effect it gives the air, they put this funny little thing called a MAF right after the air filter and it uses this tumbling effect to measure how much air is going through, hence using different air filters, shapes/sizes/anything STOPS this weird and dumb effect that is needed. the end.

I was going to toy round with making a CAI these holidays but other things have gone wrong and atm i'm trying to fix some rust, so its outta the question. Have fun and would like to see some pics :D my unifilter should arrives next week so should be good

maf for dikc :P carbi is so much easier :P

all jokes aside, i think a pre afm would be just as good as a post afm, the thing woudn't get affected by dust or any non filtered matter.

then again what gains are to be found ? kiss (keep it simple stupid)

Yeah unless your going nuts there wont really be a gain.. you'd still look pro but.
