Hi,
Having an issue with my magna.
History - Recently replaced both drive shafts, not the center shaft or baring, to resolve a highway speed shudder on accelleration in 4th and 5th, highway speed issues resolved.
New tires all round, balanced perfectly, and alligned.
Car is lowered, and ive never had an issue with this shudder for 100,000 k's
All engine mounts are ok, i have a video of the engine movement on take off if you'd like to look.
Tho the issue is now a new shudder on lower speeds between 30 and 60k's in 2nd 3rd 4th around 1500 to 3000 rpm. Only under load the shake is there, Harmonic balancer has been looked at and is ok.
The only things people are saying is that it may be the center drive shaft and baring, or the box is stuffed, runs smooth, no issues there.
Can anyone help?

What is the shutter like? Through the steering wheel? Is it a noisy shutter, or like a power on power off? Or a banging shutter?

nothing thru the steering wheel, all thru the body of the car, no noise only by things rattleing in the cabin
Thanks

My car has the same issue so i will be interested to find out what it is. I cured it once using fuel cleaner additive. That lasted for a good 10000ks

Hmm, i dont think that would work, seeing as the issue was not there untill we replaced the drive shafts, then the new issue appeared immediatly.

Cameras have shutters, cars have shudders. lol

If you have installed the drive shafts correctly, and they were new, I would suspect ball joints or wheel bearings. How many Km?

Some more info, where were these shafts from, who installed and how
Is your engine running ok as often these things can be an engine issue, the stuffed shafts masked it and now you have nice shiny new shafts the issue is more obvious.
Best to let us know some more about these shafts etc and go from there

Shafts were new from Cheapa Auto Spares on the gold coast, a large chain store, installed by a very knowledgeable mechanic who is very precise
The engine is running perfectly, has no issues with any electrics and is serviced every 5000 let me know if you need more information.

150000, no obvious bearing noise anywhere accept the throwout bearing in the gearbox.

Or the input shaft bearing, its a rattley sound not a whine like most throwouts. it makes the rattle when in neutral and clutch out, goes away when the clutch is in

I'm assuming that was taken driving the vehicle. Good video. Seems like a fair amount of movement in the mounts, did you check the front and rear roll stoppers as well?

Yep, a lot of movement there. Doesn't look like the back and forth movement of the engine is the cause, but there is a lot of camera blur at 4 min 30 seconds and its not due to the engine. More like a driveshaft flapping about. Check for up/down play at the spot where the drive shaft joins the intermediate shaft, and where the intermediate shaft and drive shaft enter the gearbox. Check wheel bearings and ball joints for play too.Something sure is flapping in the breeze. lol
Silly question, but are the large nuts on the axles tightened up properly? They have to be doen up tight.

tightened with a breaker bar, so yes haha

How I wish you had said "torque wrench" instead. How long is the breaker bar? How much weight did you put on it? How much overtightening have you applied to that nut? How much extra stress are you putting on the wheel bearings? *GROAN*
<< Yes, I'm a pedantic shit. If the manual says "200Nm - 260Nm" I stick to that! >>

I was waiting for that, i didnt do it, it was done by a trained professional who has been pulling cars apart and putting them together for the past 30 years, so i have complete confidence that he did not over tighten the bolts, or streach them or damage any way.

lol. There is a whole tribe of mechanics out there who spurn torque wrenches. When things break, or fall off, or mysterious problems - like vibrations - occur, you can see them stand around the car scratching their heads. Your confidence in someone who has been doing it WRONG for years is touching. My suggestion - buy a torque wrench, read the manual, and go over every nut and bolt he has touched. It's not rocket science!
But then, I'm pedantic. When I get new tyres put on, I check that they use a torque wrench, not a rattle gun. If they sneer at me and still use the gun, I drive home and do the nuts up with a torque wrench. They are always too tight. Correct torque stops the brake rotors from distorting. lol
Meanwhile, you are stuck with a mystery vibration. lol
Check that the brake calipers aren't flapping about. Someone probably forgot to tighten up one of the bolts. lol
Meh. Your car. Your problem.
