today was leaving school at lunch and one of my mates said, do a rev, i did, went up to about 3,800rpm took foot off and there is a strange straining sound under the hood. it also makes the sound when i turn the key from ACC to ON, i cant find where the sound is but its coming from the top of the motor or around the TB area. any idea?

yeah if its cold you will get a noise, i guess. I take it easy when its cold but if i do have to give it a gas there is like a different noise. Could be a belt problem or a noisy pully. My alternator pully was noisy and it would happen every now and again (in that i would notice it every now and again)
If its from the TB, is it a sucking noise? What is your filter like? Dirty and clogged?

Are you having any idle issues?
Sounds like the ISC motor buzzing, the ecu usually does a self check of it when you initially key on and you hear a buzz for a couple of seconds then stops. What you have does sound strange.

idles fine, about 600-800rpm roughly, cant really remember, does feel like it wants to go from a stop but cant push it or sounds like it will break something

mine used to make that noise when turning off. I ended up getting a new motor (upgraded it didn't die as such) before trouble shooting it. Clean your TB, clean the drain valve on the bottom of your intake pipe. If you are looking at the rubber intake where it joins to the TB, pull it off and there will be a hose connected in the front area facing downwards, make sure that is clean. Mine was dead and clogged. But yeah give it a good clean with TB cleaner, wipe it down and clean the rubber intake where it connects.

Probably a good thing I did, otherwise would've never found that sound or find that the hose from the back head to the TB intake was hanging off
