Hi all, Im gunna get rid of the std speakers in the back of my 96 and wanna know is 6x9 the way to go or is 6.5 inchers ok too. My system atm is Kenwood deck. Alpine 4ch amp powering 2 pioneer 12in subs and alpine splits in the front. I have the std speakers runnin off the deck but I have a smallish amp for whatever I replace them with. Can I have opinions please. BTW i saw 200w 6x9 sonys at strathfield for $88 so im thinking maybe this is the way to go as Im on a bit of a budget. cheers shaun

I'm no expert when it comes to stereos, but as I have heard many times before, and then in my last post about the rockford fosgate gear if you are running subs you don't need 6x9's. Your better off getting some 6"splits, maybe 6.5's

the sonys that you wanna get dont do it i got them and then sold them again they distort at such a low volume when you try to put some bass through it and even without it i was just running them of a 4x50 head unit but i cant imagine them sounding good from an amp im no expert on it but there not worth it they had some pioneer 3ways over at strathfield for 130 i think they would be alright but just steer clear of the xplode 6x9s but if you want trebble and no bass i got a pair of avalanch 6x9s for 9 BUCKS from strathfield when they were on special ****en ****ty for bass but trebble and mis tones excellent and they dont distort at high volumes niether they are a little bit quieter compared to other 6x9s but they where good for mis range rear fill

Leave the hole empty and just put the grills back on or get some 6 or 6.5 inch spacers and get some 2 or 3 way co axials, but really who needs rear fill? :D

Yeah, I'm not real crash-hot on those 6x9 $99 specials. Perhaps you should consider getting something better second-hand, like still spend around $100, but get something of better quality, only second-hand.
Having said that, if you've got two 12" subs in the back then I wouldn't be too worried about new 6x9s, unless your rear passengers are whinging that they can't hear anything above 100Hz (or should I say, can't feel anything, haha). Maybe just try hooking up the stock speakers to this "smallish" amp, I doubt this would make much of a difference, but you never know, it might just improve it enough.

I have the factory speakers connected and they are very muffled???? I wanted some more mid and high end in the rear aswell. Not nececerraly after bass in the back. Just so as when I turn my head the rear sounds like the front(if ya know what i mean). cheers shaun

running speakers off the head unit and running them off an amp is like chalk and cheese. Saying a speaker sounds **** when its run off the head unit isnt really fair cos often its not the speakers fault. The difference when i amped my seemingly peice of **** pioneer 3 ways was amazing!
