I think the third gen cars tend to be noisy in the tyre department no matter what you run. I have Bridgestone DAYTONs - a directional tyre - on the front of my second gen, dead quiet on there but I bet if I put them on my TJ they would be noisy. lol

These sound good.

"The new Turanza ER300, which is Bridgestone's first touring tyre with an asymmetric tread pattern, provides high-level comfort, control, and wet safety.
Acoustic comfort is also increased by a closed shoulder rib, a reinforced tie bar rib design and new rounded block edges, which give smoother contact with the road surface.
The Turanza ER300 tread pattern produces an extremely quiet ride.
The new Turanza ER300 succeeds in delivering a high-level balanced performance, with outstanding wet grip without compromising excellent dry handling and stability."

No price on them though, and whatever you buy should meet load rating or carrying ability of your car - its on the tyre placard, 94H IIRC.

EDIT: $209 each at your Bridgestone dealer.

Open the drivers door, its stuck sideways on the pillar near the bottom. If its missing the same information is in the owner's handbook. If that is missing a Mitsu dealer can sell you a new sticker. Hang on - goes outside to check his TJ . . . . .

Yes, its 94H. "94" is the load rating, "H" is the speed rating of the tyre.

Kumho KU31s. Don't know about noise but they grip very well and have a good wear life.

Get them from the right place for 150 each.

Sounds like a better deal, is their load rating 94 or higher?

Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalin.

Really good tyre, great grip in dry & wet, and quiet.

A little more expensive than some of the others mentioned here at $229 or $239 a pop (depending on who you get them from).

Kumho KU31 not bad either and a fair bit cheaper but a bit noisy and they get even noisier as they wear.

Maxxis MAZ1 Victra good value and great grip in the wet, but fairly noisy.

I've had all three of these on my 380 or my previous TE Magna.

KU31's from some tyre places that are at the size you want can be found for $140, just be sure to call up a few places and make sure you get the best price.

Nope. As long as they are round, black, are affordable, and meet the load rating, you can't go wrong. lol No point in sweating it.

put a set of falkens on mine replacing the kumo's that seemed to have no grip set me back $220ea way more grip feel much safer in the car, less road noise than the kumo's medium compound this time

i think that was them to dark to check :)

Maxxis MAZ1 Victra good value and great grip in the wet, but fairly noisy.

The MAZ1's don't have nearly as much grip as the Z4S tyres. Probably because the MAZ1's are closer to a semi slick tyre :|

And yea.. the RE001's are way out of his price range. Although, I need a set of those soon to try out.

A good tyre that I'm using a Falken ZE912 94V are the load and speed rating. designed for decent grip and a quiet ride. Problem is that its more the surface you travelling on. I used to have Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval with a directional pattern and on a good smooth surface they were quiet. On anything else though I could hear them even over loud music lol :D

Can I ask why you decided to go against all the good advice in this thread and end up with a really sub par tyre?

because some people are tight asses and think cheap round black things and expensive round black things are all the same

No, because other people have better use for their money, and couldn't care less about the "on the edge" handling most of you seem to value.

Remember too that advice here is given freely, and the op is under no obligation to follow any of it when it comes time to hand over the money. Such is life. lol

that reasoning in my opinion is just false economy, you pay $150 for some cheap chinese shit, which has poor wear, poor handling, or you could spend an extra $50 to 100 a tyre, and you'd get 1/3rd more wear at least, plus have better handling braking etc etc.

if anyone plans on buying shit tyres, keep your distance from the car in front in wet weather

Oh yeah! Shit tyres implies cautious driving - not just in the wet either! Then again, new low cost tyres are still better than tyres that have been sitting in a warehouse for 10 years and have gone rock hard, and who here checks the date on their new tyres? lol

But you are right, it probably is false economy, but that depends on how long you intend to keep the car. lol

For $150 each, you could have gotten KU31's... Did you at least shop around for that price?!

How do you know your tyres are new either if you paid far below the price everybody else buys their decent/half decent tyres for?

I nearly cleaned up a guy who fell off his motorbike infront of me while doing a small corner on friday. If I had the cheap shit I used to drive on, no doubt would my car have run over his bike and there would have been a possibility of my car pushing the bike into the rider into another car who was on the other lane. Spending an additional $20-50 a tyre (or shopping around and getting a decent tyre for the same price as the cheapo chinese crap) is definitely worth it in the end. Even if its not your fault, why have the weight of guilt on your conscious for the rest of your life??

There is a date code stamped on each and every tyre ever made. lol

Seconded. Don't know about the Federals but you just have to look at how many performance cars are wrapped with KU31s and read a review or two to realise they're universally accepted as the best value street tyre for all conditions (minus ice and snow).

I've got Potenza Adrenalin RE001s on and I was thoroughly underwhelmed. They're a good tyre but not worth the price.
I've been in Life's Magna which has KU31s and it's clear the RE001s are much worse off in the wet compared to the Kumhos.
That being said I love them in the dry on the winding roads.

Either way I'm going to KU31s next, which are much cheaper than the RE001s and have a better treadwear rating.

Ah well, live and learn.

Just to expand on that point, from what's covered in the Wheel and Tyre FAQ (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86826).

Rubber degrades over time, which means old tyres can pose a safety threat. What constitutes “old” depends on your source. The figure ranges between four years old and ten years old. It is immaterial that the tyre is brand new and has not been used on a road.

All tyres have markings that indicate when they were manufactured. They are a series of four digits on the sidewall eg “0509”. The first two digits indicate the calendar week in which the tyres were manufactured, and the second two digits indicate the year of manufacture. So in the previous example, the tyres would have been manufactured in the fifth week of 2009.

Good info there! If you are the sort of person who scrounges around wreckers looking for wheels, this is an important point. Too easy for a tyre to sit in a boot for 10 years unused and look good, but give you wheelspin and axle tramp at the slightest excuse when fitted to a front corner.

Talking about poor performing tyres - anyone remember cross plies? Whatever is on your car, you need to drive within the limits of their performance envelope - same for suspension, brakes, etc.
