Hi,
I own a 1996 TE executive manual.
I have just purchased a new 1 DIN stereo for my car and would very much like to learn how to install it.
I am new to this forum and unsure how to navigate it really, so if anyone could post/refer me to a step by step guide on how to replace my stereo I would very much appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Hugo

There's a really good guide in the audio section with pictures that I followed recently to put a single DIN pioneer in my TJ. Have a hunt around, or try the "search" function.

When it comes to wiring do you know what you are doing? Just ensure you disconnect the battery before you start working on the wiring.
To get to the radio you need to:
-Unscrew the gear knob
-Pull the center console straight up and out.
-Pull the ash tray out (only clips hold it in place)
-From under the dash disconnect the vent rod (there are 2 under there, you only need to disconnect the 1.)
-Unscrew the 2 screws that hold the aircon control face to the black surround.
-Pull the black surround out straight and disconnect the hazard switch plug.
Then all that holds the headunit cage into place are 4 screws around the corners.
Note: I may have missed something so ensure you double check what i have said when you are performing the task. Also a repair manual helps they are about $40, maybe you should look into one.

The video explains all. Its the one I viewed a couple of times before I started.
Couple additions though:
(1) You need to remove the lower dash shroud under the steering column first.
(2) Watch yourself when you pull the ash tray surround out, needs a heavy but steady pull and it gives suddenly. Cut my finger at that stage, something sharp back there.
(3) If you don't want to mess with wiring, buy a Mitsu to ISO harness and an ISO to radio harness. If you have bought a new radio take it with you, to match the second harness to your radio. I put in a Pioneer and apparently there are about four different harnesses.
(4) When you put it back together line things up carefully. If the clips don't grip they can be bent open a bit to help them grip.

No! the thread isnt resolved, FALSE ALARM :(
I tried to remove the *slide out* ciggy tray on my 1996 TE executive and it wont come out! one side seems to be stuck!
As with only one side of the center air con vent popped out :(
how do i (with out damaging) pop both of them out to get to the bottom of the dash console like the video!? Im so upset haha ive got my spanking new radio sitting there and i cant put it in :(
I guess i should have tried the advice before i said resolved...

They are in tight. Apply some force to keep the loose side from coming out too far (push on that side) and pull on the tight side. It WILL come out, and a bit of language, like %^%$#$##$%$%$ helps too! lol I swore a lot at mine when I did the transplant. I think JFC was my favourite. lol

I was using a REALLY big flat head screw driver (im talking 40 CM) wrapped in plummers tape and i couldnt make it budge...i head some groaning noises and I got really freaked out and it sounded like it was on the verge of snapping. Plus to boot on the 1 side of the AC grill that did pop out I (quite stupidly) unscrewed the screw beneath it for the center console dash and now my one side of of the AC grill just quite doesnt pop back in.
I think I should be the poster boy of why rushing gets you no where :(

Yeah the first time you take the centre console apart, expect everything to be in RFT, and every time after that because you've taken it apart before and you know what you're doing, you should be able to take the thing apart inside of 5 minutes.
