Hi Guys,
Pulled the motor+trans out of the Donor TR today, its at 194xxx km.
What should i do in terms of preventative maintainance before i whack her in, timing chains, gaskets etc?

Nothing special, just plugs, oil, filter, coolant, air cleaner, whatever looks like it needs doing. lol Leaks might benefit from new gaskets, like the sump. Fuel filter is easy to get to with the motor out, change if its the original on your car. Head gasket if it is weeping. Good time to check all the engine bay hoses for deterioration.
If you haven't heard the motor running, and if you want to keep it for a long time, the timing chain and guides are worth doing.

May as well replace the welch plugs with brass ones (if they're not already) - Save's you finding where the hell that random leak is coming from further down the track. Plus they are a pain in the ass to do when the motor is in :P

Just had a look at the motor, Seems the past owner had alreading got these changed, They seem like there new.
Also noticed the timing cover's cracked at the alternator mount :( . Must of hit really had to smash the alternator into it and crack it.
Decidied its also getting a Valve Regrind done on the head now, (Might aswell while its all apart.)
And I do intend to keep this motor for quite a while, It's going into Mums TR, Was an Executive but I'm in the process of converting it into an elite.
(I know why bother with a second gen? Well mum likes the way they look and drive over a third gen.)
Cheers

Timing cover can be rewelded, they are easily damaged when the motor is taken out and the alternator isn't taken off first.
Second gens are still worth reworking, despite their advancing age, IMHO. At least they are cheap to buy and on parts, plenty of them at the wreckers these days.
If it has new welsh plugs, maybe you will find it has new chains and guides as well, fingers crossed.
