hey guys,
just wondering how people have mounted their amps to the side of the boot. i was thinking of mounting my amps on the back seat but then thought it would look a lot cleaner if it was on the side of the boot. anyone got a diy guide on how to do this?
currently my amp is on the side,
i would like it to be pretty much on the same spot but simply vertical as if its just floating on the side lol

I did.
Got crushed.
Don't recommend it anymore. I'd mount mine under the parcel shelf if i had the choice again.

dam sounds pretty hectic but i still want it on the side, but now that you said parcel shelf its got me interested. so where exactly would you mount the amp under the parcel shelf? like upside down??
cheers

Its easy to do mate.Must be securely to do it. Mount the amps on the side brackets behind the carpet on a thick piece of MDF etc
Check my build thread or peaandhams build thread for more info

These are mounted to pieces of MDF, and the MDF is bolting into the chassis.
These a recent photos aswell, so if you need to know anything else i can still help.

Another option is to build a false floor for the boot, and then build the side-board off the floor.
I did it this way and it works a treat. The false floor is a snug fit and doesn't move around at all.

ok so went to mitre 10 and went to buy some mdf only to be redirected to the scrap bin by an employee where i got a 1 meter squared block for like 5 bucks pretty happy noting wrong with it :) neways about a couple of hours cutting and testing designs i got out the drill and attaced a slab of mdf to the Ariel bracket inside the boot. amp sits suspended and sturdy, looks good.
now all i have to do it make a window in another peice of mdf and make it look really neat. here is a photo
picture is a little bit dark so you cant see that well but still its slowly getting there

I had mine mounted with the mdf behind the carpet, would that work for you if you had the amp around 90 degrees?

looks awesome man, good job. I might look at this option for my 380 if i don't mount it like mentioned before on the under side of the parcel shelf.

That's awesome dude, how long did it take and how much did it cost all up?
I'd love to do this as well but I'm not a very handy person.

hey man, seriously if you got like 20$ you could probs do your whole boot hhahahah. i always goto the scrap bin where they have cheap timber, i picked up 2 meter rectangles for like 5$ the other day. just getting the template right, is the hard part so i used a big piece of card board and then cut the wood the same shape lol.
here is the pics of my second amp :) the first amp took me a while to do but the second one took me like an hour and a half with the right tools :)

wouldn't the glass make the amp over heat?

I keep an offcut of carpet in my boot to cover the sub with. I'm careful not to put anything up against the amps that may scratch them - but you're normally ok. You could always keep an offcut to put over amps as well - if you just threw them over loosely I doubt it'd cause the amps to overheat or anything.
I lived on college at uni for three years so I literally had to pack up my life in my car four times a year, so my boot got a very good work-out. There's a scratch or two on the amps but otherwise everything looks as new.

Hey guys. I know that no one has commented on this thread for a while but I have a question. So I have never done anything like this before and I want to give it ago. I'm a bit of a handyman/kidteenguy So i'm good with timber and fabric. But the question I have with the faceplate with carpet on it... How is that secured to the car so it's not flying around everywhere? Also while i'm at it... What's the proper way you secured the mdf with the amp on to the car? Cheers guys.

Hey StevenFarru,
I mounted my amps (Soundstream REF700.2 and Rockford Fosgate bd1000.1) into each side. These were mounted on 18mm MDF boards which I bolted to the frame. I also used L-brackets behind the MDF and bolted it to the floor. The amp trim panel was mounted using velcro as it is there for good looks not as a structural helping hand. Easy to get on and off. But I had to use staples to hold the Velcro on... Double sided tape didn't cut it.
