Hey guys i got currently in my car Head unit a pair of 2x 6x9 speakers 2x 4 inch speakers with a 6 inch body 2x tweeters with the 2 or 4 original tweeters in my 2004 Mitsubishi VRX and 2 Amplifiers (EA4200) And (33420 Premium) and a 12 inch titanium cone sub woofer all things are Eclipse brand. i am thinking of upgrading to the newest pair of 6 inch splits to get much better sound and i think it was priced around the $600 mark? and would it be worth fitting the original 4 splits in the back doors? it would take abit of work but i just want to know your opinions cheers

i didnt reali understand wat your saying - You wont get much better sound out of a 6" if u have a 4" - the midwoofer on a split set of speakers unless your after bass... size doesnt matter. I think all the bass shuld be coming from your sub but thats my opinion everyones differnt. do you have speakers in your back doors?

OH lol i was going to do that - i have RF-60C 180W RMS each splits at the front a Clarion amp runing them - and pioneer 6x9's at the rear with a 2 channel amp runing them 70WRMS each. I was going to do exact same thing put splits in my rear doors BUT 2 ppl advized me not to - they said just upgrade ur rear speakers - i did that (now i got hte pioneers) and WOW the high freq is extremely loud and sharp even on 0 - somtimes i have it on -1 or -2 coz its too much for my liking. I think your just wasting your time + money. when you sit in the back having a decent pair of 6x9 with the amp set right will be PLENTYYY if you have more in the doors it will just be too much... and there is too muchhh! ! ! lol :) as much as it thought that was impossible before.
have the amp switch to HPF and c how you go :) thats what i have done - bass is set to -10 and sub is on 0. it sounds perfect hte speakers never can distort and they are crystal - no bass comes from them though ;) my 15 750W RMS clarion does that. :)

sounds good mate. i have to get someone to tune my amplifiers as allot of my mates seem to do different settings but the sound is good my itouch is ****ed though on the headphone part as the head unit is about 3 years or more old but i had to go get a special ipod part from maroochy car sound to fit behind it so i could run my mp3 ipod music, so only will be upgrading to the newest edition of the Eclipse Head unit the show room one the folds out haha and my current eclipse tweeters are not wired at the moment they were just running off the 4 inch speakers so i need to buy some of those Tweeter box's? forgot what they are called they run the tweeters when you buy a pair of splits and would it be worth keeping the original tweeters?

Get rid of the whole lot and invest in a decent set of 6.5 splits for the front. Have them professionally tuned and installed and you wont realise you have back speakers!
Something along the lines of Focal, crescendo, CDT, Morel etc

how much would a decent set of focal ones cost? and who would supply them on the sunshine coast? sound in motion or maroochy car sound?

wont realise you have back speakers? um lol thats a bad thing needs to be balanced so you get the surround effect.
Yes you neeeeeeeeed the "tweeter boxes" there called crossovers - YOU CANT RUN THE TWEETERS LIKE THAT YOULL RUIN THEM prb already have btw.
look my advice - you dont need to spend an amazing amount of money - just get 6x9s a good set for the rear - and nice splits for the front there not splits until you connect them to a CROSSOVER ! ! ! your puting low freq through the tweeter and its gona be ruined prb is btw.

Pioneer TS-D1720C Speakers - some places have them for $300 - cant go wrong Ive heard them there AMAZING!
Pioneer 6 inch Component Speakers TSA-1702C of them which will only set you back around $180
Sound Stream Rubicon Series Components RBC.6 - i wanted to get these - highly recommend them :)
Pioneer TS-A6973E 6x9inch 3 Way Car Speaker - there a decent set of 6x9's the same ones i have :)
:) all the best

Sorry mate have to completely disagree with you.
If you set up the front stage and imaging right you will have a surround effect anyway. Anyone who is serious about their audio anyway or you can have basic doof system. Depends what you are after
Pioneer splits are not amazing mate. They are very basic and mainstream and lack vital clarity IMO
A good set of focals will set you back anywhere from 400 to 1300 depending on what you want

Tweeters require a crossover for each tweeter. Splits the low frequencies to the mad bass and the highs to the tweeters. Tweeters are most probably dead if you have run it any other way
Also stay away from soundstream splits. Had them and will never ever install a set again

I have the soundstream splits and i find them great :) RF-60C bought them 2yrs ago -
mine isnt a "doof doof" system - your free to ur opinion - Pioneer is a great brand and sounds amazing yes FOCAL are better your paying almost 4 times the price - but again paying for FRENCH labor - that isnt cheap!
The human ear cant pick out that kind of clarity the soundstream splits I have contain a globe which burns off any excessive noise - i can never get them to distort they are great - i had a few freinds who installed the ^" speakers and had prbs with them - but none of teh ppl i konw with teh splits including myself ever had a prb - but if your worried I rekon just go hear the pioneers see wat you think, im sure you'll be suprised - the ones i showed you are top of the line almost.

OH and i have the setttings all right - it sounds amazing as it is - if the front is too good it overrides the back regardless of settings - seting the fader to + 8 for the rears isnt solving the problem.

Yeah i brought my soundstream splits 2 years ago then basically threw them out. Now have a set of focal krx2 and the clarity is worlds apart
Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but have a listen to other brands and see if it changes. It may be just the style you like aswell
Lmfao. Simply lmfao reading this thread.
Mate, listen to whatever advice you choose but at the end of the day look at this. I have my opinion on good brands, im not going to push them onto you. Im going to give you solid advice from years of experience in building systems, advising people, learning from people, and judging systems.
First question to ask yourself: What dont you like about your system? If you cant answer that, why upgrade? If you can, focus on what you arent happy with and work on that instead of dicking around with all this random nonsense being said.
Firstly.. 4" speakers in the front doors of a 3rd gen... why? If you arent happy with the sound from your front speakers, go straight to 6 or 6.5" and go out and listen to something that you enjoy the sound of. Dont let the sales people con you into things, if you find something you like, come back on here and ask about the product and recommended prices before buying.
Dont mind the sound of the existing 6x9's? Then dont touch them. And when it comes to sticking speakers in the back doors... why over-complicate things? Leave them out, its a waste of time and will have a negative impact on the sound at the end of the day.
As for surround sound effect... been listening to many stereophonic recordings in your car lately? No, didnt think so. Unless your using your car as a media centre, rear speakers are purely there to give the rear passengers something to listen to, but I certainly wont argue the fact that people can prefer to be somewhat 'immersed' in the sound, having it envelope them from all directions. At the end of the day, they will reduce the quality of your listening experience from the front seats (ignoring extra volume and/or midbass/bass that they create) for the simple fact that the sound frequencies are delayed to your ears and dull the accuracy of whatever your listening to. Now this will pretty much happen in a car no matter what, without going into advanced configurations and settings, the easiest way to reduce this effect is to eliminate multiple noise sources.
To answer your original question.. Will you get better sound from 6" speakers? Depends what already in there and what you plan on changing over to, and how they are installed and tuned... but most likely, yes. yes you will.
