Hey all,

I did a transmission flush a few weeks ago and the car seems to have liked it. I think I overfilled it though, I found it impossible to accurately determine the level on the dipstick, the new fluid looked completely clear. So first question, am I the first person to find that a problem? How do you get round it?

As I've probably overfilled it, I dumped all the box sump oil and refilled a bit. Now I'm having the same trouble. I felled it to the cold mark which was easy to see. Then, with engine running and car in Neutral, I took the dipstick out, which was completely covered in trans fluid. I've read heaps of threads testifying that this is the way to determine trans fluid level, how could it be within the cold range and so far out in the hot range? I figure it's just splashing. So how long should I wait after starting the engine (while hot) to take the trans level?

While warming up the car it was flaring a fair bit too. I have to wonder how long it'd take to level out after dumping the sump fluid? 2 mins? 20km driving?

Sorry for the basic questions. I did a search but couldn't find the specific info needed.

Cheers

car running in neutral on a level surface, you pulled the dipstick out, wiped it, put it back in, pulled it out again and the level was where on the dipstick?

When I did mine I found it was spot on when filled to the cold marked and the re-checked hot. i would say hot would be whent he Torque convertor starts to lock up. Maybe 7-10 k's of driving (for me)

It was all the way up the dipstick, like it was splashing up there. I checked the cold level this morning and it was at the bottom, so I topped it right up. It still flared pretty wildly on a roundabout 1km from home though

Flaring has stopped (when hot at least), but I still can't tell where the hot level is. When the car is running it seems to splash a bit up the dipstick. There doesn't seem to be a constant fluid level anywhere, but there should be at least the height of the cold markings right?

Hey hold on, you do know that "cold level" must be checked with engine running yeah? Cold level used when you just started the engine & the fluid is relatively cold, so the fluid level must be within cold section of the dip stick, then go for a drive around the block few times, park check level again & it should be within "HOT" zone (again with engine running), if it below "hot" line then you can top it up. Fluid expands under heat & pressure, hence hot level zone allows for that.

Okay if you think fluid is splashing on the dip stick & its hard to see, i found that it normally splashes on one side only, flip it around & you should get nice straight line.
