View Full Version : Clutch Problem with 87 TN Magna manual
As of lately ive been having clutch problems with my magna. sometimes its good sometimes its bad. the problem is when you start the car and try and put it into a gear it wont let you. Clutch fluid is fine. just re-blead the lines. and i dont believe it needs a new clutch because when it works its perfect. REEEEEEEEEALLY hoping someone can help me because ive had alot of people look at it and they cant figure it out either.
cheers

Clutch plate face sticking to the flywheel or clutch plate due to oil on it, or the clutch centre tight on the splines.
When you next start it cold, put the car in gear and start it with the clutch down and the brake on. That will kick it loose. If it is fine at changing gears after that, you know its one of the above problems. Whenever my TP manual did that, I'd take off in second a few times with lots of clutch slip to get some heat into the clutch plate and burn off any oil on it, works for a while.
Might be worth while checking the oil level in the gearbox and checking the gear linkage/cables for binding.

We had the same with the daughters Elante, turned out to be the fingers on the pressure plate were knackered. Worked fine for any undetermined period of time, then just plain wouldn't play the game. Bled the little sucker thinking that was the problem and each time we did that it rectified the problem, but ultimately it failed again. Ended up putting in a heavy duty clutch kit, did the master and slave cylinders while we were at it and fresh fluid through out, light as a feather, she loves it.
