Howdy
I am looking at getting a Mitsubishi 380. I have a TJ series 2 Advance that's done about 177,000kms as a trade in. It's a sedan with LPG that was fitted when the car was brand new by the previous owner (not factory fitted though)
I got offered $3,000 trade-in for it.
Thoughts?

Sounds about right.
You have to remember a dealer needs to make money off your car, so he has to pay for rego, rwc and then add his mark ups. $3k sounds about right and they'll probably end up selling it for around $6k.

$3k is pretty much minimum trade, and about all you'll get for that car. I got $3k for my 1992 TR with 280,000kms on it for trade when I bought my Ralliart back in 2006.

Yeah I think I am going to get them to re-draw the paper work and I will sell it privately. A friend of mine has said he will buy it for $3k if I can't sell it within a few months.

When I eventually upgrade I'll probably just trade mine in, I may only get 2-3k for it, but waiting for someone to pay 4/5 privately, I could be waiting a long time.

Having gas as option is a huge plus with todays fuel costs. If anything this should make yours more attractive and worth more given the installation costs. If you've already signed a contract they may already be counting on a profit from your vehicle.
If you can sell privately, its always the better option even if you go a little less than the market value as you'll get that little bit more than you will trade in. I was offered 4.5k trade in for the VR-X last year so I'd assume they wld try to sell it for 7k.

Sounds about what you can reasonably expect to get. The LPG is more likely to benefit the dealer by making your car easier to sell rather than increasing its value as a trade-in.
