Has anyone done this? I did a search and couldn't see anything.

My understanding is the TE-TJ ones will fit in TL-TW but the locking mechanism wont work?

I'm not sure what the physical difference is. The reason I ask is I am after some TL-TW chrome door handles+surrounds, which im having trouble finding, however I can get some TE-TJ ones and was wondering whats required in modifying them (so the locking works) if I were to get them instead?

Cheers.

Edit: you were talking internal handles, not external. :facepalm My mistake.

Hey mate, I believe the TE-TJ ones use a rod to control the locking mechanism, whereas the TL-TW ones use a cable. The TE-TJ handles have no bracket to hold the cable in place and thus a bracket will need to be screwed/welded on for these to work on a TL-TW. I'll see if I can dig up the diagram someone put up at some stage

RightNow?

I think he may be talking about inner door handles. Only saying that because he said "handles and surrounds".

My advice to the OP is to find a set of NON-chrome TE-TJ handles nice and cheap (wreckers..) and have a go at modifying those to fit first. If it is a simple job and you can do it (obviously test it all first) THEN go out and buy the chrome ones. That way you won't waste $100~ on a pair of chrome handles that either a) won't fit, or; b) you ruin.

Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

Reading this thread I take it you are taling INTERNAL handles and not external

If this is the case you have 2 options

1/ do as I did in my wagon and change the latches, I went the other way as I ahve the TL/W latches and internal handles with the cable release however there is no reason you can not go back the other way as long as the parts are from a TH or TJ, TF and TE are different
2/ make a little plate to rivet onto the handle for the cable to clip into, this has been done before.
