Howdy peeps. wondering if you guys may help me. i just recently changed a headdeck in the TW so i disconnected the negative whilst doing so. not even thinking about the consequences i reconnected the terminal and went to crank it over. the dash display a 5 or S i think and it stalled almost instantly. after about 10 cranks it has held idle but will still stall if i put my air con on. its been a week since and will still stall when i turn the air con on. how do i go about getting it back to its settings before i disconnected the terminal. the car runs beautiful besides this though. thanks guys

the s is for sedan i think you just hold the mode key to set it then it will say 30 or 35 that is engine size hold mode again and it should work again, as for the stalling i cant help there but if i had to guess(dont quote me as fact) id say have a look at a new battery and give it a try.

edit: from your dp i assume you have a sedan if you have a wagon you need to make the screen say w by pressing(and holding?) the up/down keys till it changes.(this info is from a 3rd gen tj so it may be different for your tw)

Reset the ECU again..

Once you've got it all sorted.. Start her up.. Input the right settings for the trip computer and let it idle for 5..

I had a similar issue with my KJ.. Let it idle and then took it for a short lap or two around the neighbourhood and all was sweet!

pretty sure its not the battery as it starts fine. its only when the aircon is switched on.

u reckon just disconnect the negative again to reset, then select S for sedan and select 35 for engine size? seems harmless.

Yea, and let it to idle for 5 minutes.

It's the idle stepper motor not kicking in to catch the dip in revs from the aircon.

For some reason I hear of this happening a lot in auto 3rd gen magnas... let it relearn how to idle and it should be fine.

This happens every time ECU is reset. Its basically learning, & yes it will stall few times, just keep driving with AC on & dont try to prevent it from stalling by revving the engine, it will learn itself after few goes.

Cheers

what if i drive around now with the aircon on without resetting it again. will the ecu adjust still if it happened a week ago?

just reset it. come up with S, held mode down and come up with 3.5ltr. now idling with aircon on at 7500rpm. so i leave it idling for 5 mins?

disconnect the battery negative for a while, then reconnect it. when S comes up, hold the mode button until it beeps, then it will move on to 3 or 3.5, again hold the mode button until it beeps. your trip computer is now set.
there is a specific process for relearning that was floating around, but generally you just get the car to start and idle for 5-10 minutes to let it relearn, and then use the air con, turn the wheels to full lock, to make sure it's not stalling while doing these things.

Im not sure about TW maybe you cant select 3 or 3.5 anymore (given that 3 litre was not an option from TL to TW), regardless all that does is determines your average fuel consumption and distance to empty, it does not affect engine running as such.

And yes just drive with aircon on for like an hour it should go back to normal

Dude.... why is it idling at 7500rpm??????? :O

There should be a 6000rpm rev limiter. Only my cars are allowed to rev to 7500rpm. :)
