Hi all, my KH Verada is due for the 200,000 k service, I was just looking at the mitsubishi service book I got with the car and it only says to replace the platium plugs and timing belt at 200,000 ks, says nothing about the replacing water pump, should the water pump be replaced at 200,000 ks?
cheers

its called preventative servicing. ie, preventing a problem before it actually happens. in this case, instead of spending 600 in labour now, and then possibly having to spend it again if your waterpump starts leaking in 20,000ks. do the pump while the belt is being done, killing 2 birds with one stone, and making sure doesnt happen later down the track, well atleast for another 100,000k. a new pump will set you back around 130 from sca, and i have had one of those pumps for 100,000k and have not had any isuues. the original mitsu one only lasted 120,000k.

only reason i wouldnt do it again id if the pump in there has less than 60,000k on it. however, if your handy and doing it yourself, it might be worth the risk leaving it in and seeing if it will go the distance.

I would. I had my timing belt done at 200,000, but they didnt replace the water pump or the spark plugs. A few months later (9,000ish ks) I hear a weird noise coming from the engine bay, got my mechanic to check it out, he thought it was an idler pulley gone. I took it back to the place that did the timing belt and they rekoned it was the water pump. So I had to pay for labour AGAIN to have the water pump fitted. Never found out if it was really the water pump or if the mech was just trying to cover his ass by pretending it was something else and charging me for labour....but its prob a good idea to replace just incase it was my water pump.... you dont want to have the same thing happen to you!!

My 200K service is due in about a month. I've decided to have the water pump replaced as I believe it's good preventative maintenance. Madmagna may be able to do a better price than SCA for the water pump.

I would not at 100 k in general but at 200 k definately

I can do a lot better than 135 also lol

Get the pump done and if you want a quote on parts sing out... Email is best... And will send you a list of prices

Also make sure the person fitting is doing the belt correctly as this is 90% of the reason pumps go

I thought it was best to replace the water pump at the 200,000 k service but I just found it strange it didn't say anything about it in the Mitsubishi service book. I will be doing the service myself and currently looking for info on how is the best way to go about it. You said some people don't fit the timing belts correctly and it 90% the reason the pumps fail, can you give me some pointers on fitting the timing belt correctly? I have bought the timing belt kit just after the water pump now, if you like can you email me a price list? my email is djrheinberger@yahoo.com.au Cheers
