View Full Version : What amp should i use?
Hey guys, i recently purchased an Orion HCCA 12" sub and i'm wondering what a good amp would be.
I want a good value amp that won't ruin this beautiful sub (the sub cost me about $900)
Any suggestions would help :)
Power Handling:
Peak: 4000 watts
RMS: 2000 watts

Okay so you have one of them so you should be able to get that power pretty easily wired to 1 ohm
Maybe
Digital designs
Soundstream
Sundown
Soundigital
Plenty of other options
I personally am happy with my soundstream DTR 2200
ahk thanks mate,
what sort of price did you pay for your soundstream and from where?

I paid $1200 a year ago and have not had a problem with it. Great amp and have one the last few sound comps i have been to with it
Can get them online or motoquipe
ouch! :P
Not looking for comp spec really, i just dont need it.
What do you reckon would be a good budget 1ohm amp that'd power this sub alrite?
Would the brands that you mentioned before be costly?

Okay to get that power wired down to 1 ohm you are looking around the $700 - $1200 mark depending on the brand choice
im looking at a soundstream PCX1500D, any good? 1500w @ 1ohm

How much for? I can recommend any of soundstream amps especially mono. They are great for what they are and the power they produce
With that you would be wasting the subs potential lol
$300 :P
im not looking for the 4" excursions and all that, i just want it so it shakes my car lol

Speak to a Option Audio Rep/Dealer and see if you can get your hands on a Option Audio OAX1502 or the current model, they are good value for money.
yeah i've organised some amps thanks guys, will see how they go and if i like em (which im sure i will lol) i'll just keep em
Second hand Earthquake amp will go bulk cheap and have an excellent damping factor. Just need to read into which ones are right for you and if particular flaws have been repaired under warranty.
Bit of an update,
Gathering of materials to build the sub box with is in progress (19mm MDF, Carpet)
HiFonics 2400w Brutus Amp is on its way from the states
Will hopefully be going down to Jaycar for some 0 gauge wire next weekend
And depending on how the battery i've got handles the strain, I may install a dual battery kit and another 700cca battery in the boot
That is all haha

get 2 x jaycar 1000w rms amps, they link together to make 2000w rms at 1ohms, dont under power a comp sub, it is too easy to get clipping and melt one of the voice coils, or both. at $598 for 2 they are good value. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0455&CATID=15&form=CAT&SUBCATID=443
haha as i wrote above i have already bought a hifonics brutus 2400 for $400 delivered :) but thanks anyway.
also another update,
box, sub, 0 ga wiring and brutus are all finished/installed and sounding great :D the battery i have is coping fine and i have run the system at full bore for 3+ hrs without starting the car, and the voltage hasn't dropped below 12.3 but usually sits at about 12.5-12.7 or at about 14.5 when the cars running :)
