Hi All,

I have just recently been experiencing some starting problem on my 02 KJ 3.5. It's beginning to stutter badly on starting, like it's missing on one or more cylinders; once it's going (just takes a couple of seconds), it's fine, although I have been noticing some minor hesitation (like an occasional miss) at 1-2,000 rpm for some time (oddly enough this latter problem seems better with higher octane fuel).

Any ideas out there on what may be causing the starting problem?

I should also note that the plugs, leads and dizzy cap are all new, or only a few k's old & the fuel filter has also been changed recently...

I'd check that plug leads are fully pushed home both at the dissy and spark plug ends. Did you check the rotor button and were the plug gaps checked?

Thanks Hako. Leads all seated OK, rotor button is new (forgot to mention that...) & the plugs are all platinum, so they're ready gapped.

Does seem to be an intemittent problem though. Sometime it starts perfectly, other times it stumbles badly for a couple of seconds before picking up.

Sounding like either coil or fuel injectors

Bad fuel? Chuck a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank and fill up with 98 octane to see if that helps.
