View Full Version : To Fog or not to Fog...

I currently have a set of KF Verada Fog lights with all harnesses, cables, connectors, steering column stalk, etc. I have thought about fitting them to the TF Magna, but with the work involved in installing them along with the fact i'm not sure the TE/TF style bumpers look all that great with them fitted (personal preference) i've been putting it off.

So if there's any pros and cons for having these things fitted, i'd like to hear them. :P

Otherwise, if I was looking to sell these off as a kit, what would be recommended to take off the car to go with them? Control stalk and the lights themselves clearly. Is it worth taking out the loom that runs them as well or just the connectors from the end? I have the brackets for a Verada (and maybe one pair of brackets for a Magna, i'll have to check).

Anything else i've missed?

Cheers

I Would try and sell them as a package and if they don't sell that way then split it up and sell separately. Im a little confused by your post, in the first section you say you don't have them fitted and then in the second section you ask what you should take off your car. Unless you have a sports you wont have the harness on your car. (correct me if Im wrong)

On another note if you want to sell the brackets separately and the magna ones you have are for a TJ then Ill buy them off you.

I think fog lights look good on a TF.

Does it ever get foggy where you live? If you don't drive in fog, there is no need for them and seems like some effort for looks. May be better off converting them into brake cooling ducts, for that racing look :)

Driving around with foglights for "the look" is all of 3 things -

1) Illegal. Full stop.
2) Very bloody annoying to everyone else and makes you look like a complete prat.
3) Utterly pointless and markedly DEGRADES your night vision - it makes the road directly in front bright, contracts your pupils that little bit more and REDUCES your ability to see further ahead which is where you should be looking. If the foglights illuminate something you might hit when its that close, you have already hit it...

No point installing them.. I have built in fog lamps which I find helpful, but i was told by a cop once to turn them off if there is no fog, or else risk being fined $200.

The "looking cool" factor for fog lamps have faded away.

IMO, well aligned foggies do not distract oncoming cars. but the law is the law... Thanks to the idiots who drive with them on all the time.

So, really.. if you want them for looks, just put the lamps in with the brackets, but dont need to wire them up. When you sell your car, just take them off and sell it as a kit.

So the the Wiring Loom in a TJ Magna executive doesn't have the plugs for the foglights built into it?

Yeah I didn't like that answer so I thought I'd try again. 10 points for finding my earlier question!

SA Driver's Handbook (http://www.mylicence.sa.gov.au/the_drivers_handbook) page 82:

Front or rear fog lights can also be used in fog or other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility – but you must switch them off when visibility improves.

And straight from section 217 of the Australian Road Rules 1999 (http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/R/Australian%20Road%20Rules.aspx):

217—Using fog lights
(1) The driver of a vehicle fitted with front fog lights or rear fog lights must not operate the fog lights unless the driver is driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility.

Offence provision.
(2) In this rule:
front fog light means a light (other than a headlight) fitted to the front of a vehicle to improve illumination of the road in fog, snowfall, heavy rain or dust clouds.
rear fog light means a light (other than a brake light, a tail light, a number plate light or a reversing light) fitted to the rear of a vehicle to make the vehicle more easily visible from the rear in fog, snowfall, heavy rain or dust clouds.

Happy now? :)
