View Full Version : My car hates me . . . .

My car has had a "bad hair" day today.

First, I'm approaching a busy roundabout with rowdy kids in the car, when the TJ trip meter starts beeping.
Thinking the world is going to end, I look at it - it says "19:55" while beeping. Avoiding traffic, I did a "U" turn to get to my destination. It reset itself a few minutes later.

Tech question: Does the trip 'puter reset itself at the 20 hour mark for other people? If so, why?

Second, one of my brake lights went out. Pulled the globe, can't read the wattage on it and can't find it in the manual.
Any ideas?

Pull out the other brake light globe measure it resistance and use P= V^2/R. But I will have a guess it will be about 5W :)

Yeah Max 19:55 is as far as the trip computer goes. Surprised me a bit the first time it happened too

Thanks for that. I was surprised, i expected it to at least go to 99:59, but I guess there isn't much RAM inside its little head. <joke>

I'm guessing the globe is 21W /5W. I will visit the local car parts shop in the morning.

Hey Max, just checked the brake globe in my TF. It reads P21/5W Stanley 12V Japan.

They are different globes int he TF

Max, you need the standard 21/5w globe are the slide in globe so go to a parts shop and replace both sides

The trip comp does not have a complete didget on the far lhs so can only read a 1 thus reset at 19.99hrs as it can not read 20.00

Yep, bought a pair of wedge type double filament, 21W/5W, all sorted. TF has the bayonet mount type, possibly. (?)

Trip computer timer - didn't think of that, if the first digit can only be a"1", then all is clear! I will try not to panic if it ever goes off again. lol Happened just at the perfect (wrong) time!

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
