Hi

My 03' KJ has a rough idle when in drive and stationary, and the revs eventually fall to about 500rpm. Putting it in N or P helps and then it sits at about 650-700rpm. Ive had a mechanic clean the throttle, check the engine mounts, and no improvement. It done 109,000 km and had the timing belt changed a while ago. Someone on here suggested the idle speed controller, and i took it to La Mans Auto in Brisbane who said he could replace it, but after having a look at the car he rang me up and said he thinks changing the ISC wouldnt do much? So we didnt change it. Anyone think it would probably be worth doing it anyway? Or know something else to check? When you pull up at the lights the cabin vibration is annoying.

thanks,

Also on an unrelated problem, my fuel gauge is acting up. It reads full when i fill the tank up, but after about 10km it makes its way to empty. The La Man's mechanic said the sensor was faulty and it will cost about $300 to replace as the tank needs to be taken out. However ive heard this is a common KJ problem and it is only the sender unit that needs to be replaced which costs about $80? Should i make him check the sender unit? If its going to cost $300 i dont think ill worry too much as i can still work out how much fuel i have in the tank from the trip computer. Thanks again

Sounds like the fuel sender unit is faulty, and no you don't need to take the tank out, the unit is under the rear seat. There is a thread here of a DIY for it. Someone will find it.
